When thinking of this question, I remember back to the Foreman-Frazier fight. Frazier was feared and was tough as nails, Foreman destroyed him. Tyson's chin was not that good, he never fought any punchers like Foreman. Remember what Douglas did to him? Douglas was never considered a power puncher, yet he beat him up. Tyson was a bully. If he couldn't get you out early, he'd wear down. Foreman would play with him, then set him up ala Michael Moorer. Foreman by KO in Round 3. Short but exciting fight.

I doubt that Tyson would do well against the young Foreman. Mike did not like it against a fighter who would come right up after him. Foreman was much too big for Tyson and had the killer punch as did Tyson. A better fight would have been Tyson vs Frazier. (Look what Foreman did to "Smokin Joe".) Foreman would handle Tyson the same way. The long hard Foreman jab would have been another factor. Ask yourself, could you ever imagine Foreman losing to a Buster Douglas? Neither can I.

I think people tend to over rate Tyson, he fought when a lot of heavy weights were not real good.
Kind of like now.
Foreman had a lot of flaws, because he did not have very much experience.
I don't see Tyson beating Foreman, after Foreman destroyed Frasier, who had a similar style and size and was feared almost as much as Tyson was at the time.
Tyson was not the end all be all to boxing.
He could not win the big fights as an amateur.
He had lots of faults too, and if he did not knock you out early had problems.

Oddly, I think the second version of Foreman, the late 80's, early 90's version would beat Tyson easily. George was so very calm and relaxed, and that made his stamina better. I think Georges prime came late, really late.
The 70's version was so rage filled that it drained him of energy, and perhaps that mixed with Tysons' punches give Mike the late KO win.
So I guess it depends on where you think Georges' prime was.
Either way I like Foreman to beat Tyson....

George Foreman would win by KO. Young George Foreman was too big, too strong and had too long of a reach for Tyson.
George Foreman KOd Joe Frazier in 2 rounds the first time they fought and he KOd Fraizer in 5 rounds the second time they fought. The first time Foreman fought Fraizer they were both undefeated and Fraizer was less then 2 years removed from his win over Muhammad Ali. Enough said.

George Foreman. He was taller and had a much greater reach. Ali could do the rope-a-dope, but that was not Tyson's style. George Foreman by KO in the 2nd to 4th round.

You're right about George's raw power. But that's about all that he had besides his imposing size and intimidation, which, incidentally, wouldn't bother Tyson one bit. Foreman was slow and didn't have a decent defense to speak of. Despite his devastating power, he threw long arching wallops that made him vulnerable to lead counters, as shown during the Ali fight. Now, Tyson was fast, both of hand and feet and had that pretty solid peek-a-boo defense that would make him a hard target for the slower and tentative Foreman. He would bob and weave through George's defense then take him out with his famous double hook (to the body then to the head). And with Tyson's equally devastating, if not more, power, Foreman would be a goner in less than 5 rounds.
