I am assuming that you have not been to boot camp yet by the IF in your question and the fact that you use the word gun.

My husband was a Marine sniper and the first thing they told him as they would have told you when you were in boot camp that everything including your person is government property when you signed the papers.

Also you would know that you do not keep your rifle (not gun) in your possession at any time they are only given out when you deploy or are in the field training. Due to the fact there is always someone trying to steal them, and they are extremely dangerous weapons.

Whoa, wait a minute! The Navy has snipers??
As far as I know, the closest thing the Navy has to a sniper is that fat dude who comes up and swipes the last slice of bone dry cake out from under you in the mess line.....
=P

No.

Weapons are controlled items. They are issued as is necessary and turned in when it's no longer necessary for you to have your weapon. They are kept track of fairly well.

If you want a weapon *like* the sniper rifle you would have as a Navy sniper, you can purchase one, build one, or have one built for you. The majority of true sniper rifles are bolt-action weapons built for making that one long-range shot. They are pretty much legal to purchase and own in all 50 states. (They are also pretty damn expensive.)

If you were actually in the Navy, and a sniper at that (which the USN has very few of)...you would know the answer. But hey, that is the greatest thing about the internet...you can be anything you want to be.

The only "snipers" the US Navy has are SEALs. If you're a SEAL (which I seriously doubt) you would already know the answer to this question.

in the military its called a weapon.. not a gun. i doubt very much you are a sniper or even in the military for that matter. if you were, you would already know the answer to that question.

If you are a Navy sniper, then I am the prime minister of Uganda.

technically you don't get a gun anyway. You aren't even allowed to have it without reason, its locked up until you are supposed to have it on duty. The only reason everyone gets their own gun anyway is so the military knows who to yell at when it breaks.

Sure you do... if you want a dishonorable discharge, jail time, a court marshal, and constant surveilance from the government! (maybe not that last one) but assuming that your "gun" is either an M324 or an M21, I'm positive you can get civilian versions at most firearm dealers... but for shooting bucks and moose- not people!

No, it belongs to the navy.

Purchase your own when you get out, for those hunting trips where you must shoot a deer or bear from 3000 yards away.
