I have heard rumors that a coach locally has been accused in the past of sexual misconduct with a minor, I do not want my child to play for him if its true. How can I go about finding out if he has been accused?

If it's only accusations you seek, then the only way to find that out is to talk to parents and students who've been around him. If you're looking for convicted people, go to the FBI's web site to search in your state:

An accusation is not an indicator of guilt. If a conviction were given to this individual, he would not be coaching children to begin with, and would be a registered sex offender in a data base. Accusations have ruined many good peoples careers, over nothing more than a false accusation from someone who had a motive for revenge. I would not look for accusations, but rather, proof of a conviction.

ANYONE WHO IS A CHILD ABUSER, MOLESTER, SEXUAL OFFENDER AND IS FOUND GUILTY OF SUCH IS BARRED FROM EVER TEACHING IN ANY USA SCHOOL DISTRICT.

YOU SAY AN ACCUSED. THE ACCUSED MAY BE INNOCENT? SO YOU SHOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO FIND OUT UNDER THE TEACHERS RIGHT TO CONFIDENTIALITY AND THE SCHOOL BOARDS LIABILITY TO BE SUED IF THE PERSON IS INNOCENT.

MANY STUDENTS IN RETALIATION TO A TEACHER HAVE FILED FALSE REPORTS OF SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR AND LATER DROPPED THE CASE OR THE SCHOOL BOARD FOUND NO EVIDENCE TO SUBSTANTIATE A CHARGE. NOW AS OF MEGANS LAW--ALL CASES ARE BOUND OUT OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO THE SCHOOL OFFICERS DUTY TO TAKE A CASE REPORT. THEN THE STUDENT IS ALSO NOW LIABLE FOR A LIE AND A FALSE ACCUSATION.

If he has been "accused?" Is your standard of proof of guilt so low as to condemn someone who has merely been accused? Perhaps wrongly? If I accused you of sexual misconduct, you would then become accused. If I did that you would have to put your child in a foster home because he or she should not be around a bad person like you (because you have been "accused")! If your standards are so restrictive that an accusation is enough to disqualify a person then you might as well lock your child up in a plastic bag until he or she is old enough to make decisions alone.

Definitely check the sex offenders register in your state and any nearby states. The various states don't have to communicate these violations to other states. In our area sex offenders often get rehired by the same school after a couple years. I guess they figure that once they are caught, they will think twice about doing it again. How obtuse can they be? Defintely check this guy's background.

If you cant find anything on the state or federal level sex offenders list you can ask the school for a copy of the teachers prior teaching positions and credential. Then do your own investigating that way.

What a shame you are painting a scarlet letter on this guy and all ready to drag his name through the mud.

Go to your school board and review their policy on checking backgrounds before they hire someone.

I am sure you wil find that they properly handle anyone that is convicted.

And that anyone who is not convicted is innocent until proven guilty.

Ask them what grade they teach that fundamental principle of American justice, and see if you can sit in on a class for a refresher lesson :)

Sounds like a rumor.

There is no way any school district would take the insurance liability of hiring a known abuser.

megans law...look that up under google. yep. i think you just type it the name and it will pop up. other than that i think you can go to the school [if it is for school] and ask them straight up. i think they have to tell you.
