There are some plays that have only a few onstage deaths (Richard III has only 2 onstage but MANY offstage). What play has the highest total death toll?

Only according to the script. I know Shakespeare has a few plays that are centered around a battle, but I am looking for the highest character death toll as written in the script.

"Henry V", is a based on a war fought on St. Crispian's Day. Many lives were lost. Also King Richard III was filled with death. Hamlet is a tragedy because all of the main characters die in the play. The people who posted have that portion right however war trumps family tragedy.

I am an English teacher. Good luck and look those plays up on your search engine. Whoops it's Titus Andronicus not a popular play but very bloody.

Titus Andronicus is Shakespeare's most violent and bloodiest play, though the word blood is mentioned most often in macbeth.

well, that depends on the director's staging of the battle scenes--there could be bodies all over the place, but i think it has to be Hamlet
