I just adopted an 8 week old puppy. She hasn't had any shots yet. I was just wondering what shots need to be given at her age.

What we tell the people who bring their animals in is that they need to start their shots and the first heartworm pill at 6 weeks; eight weeks is fine, you just push the shots back two weeks. For his/ her first round, you just need the distemper/parvo shot. At 12 weeks you can get another distemper, the rabies and the kennel cough (bordetella). All are shots except the kennel cough which are drops that go in the nose. If you plan on having the dog kenneled or groomed you need this. At 16 weeks, you get a booster for you distemper/ parvo and kennel cough. These should be the last set of shots you need until you get her shots again in a year which will be just one of each. The reason why you need more of the distemper/ parvo and the kennel cough is because they are more likely to get these diseases at a younger age if not properly vaccinated. You must also remember to keep her on her monthly heartworm this is important even if the dog is an inside dog.

Puppys usually get four sets of shots every three week starting when they are six weeks of age. However your pet is a little older so she may only need three sets. The first set will include the DA2P(combo vaccine). This usuallt includes vaccines for Distemper, Parvo, Hepatitis, and sometimes Corona. Some vets also give a dewormer as well. They will get this same shot everytime so they can build up an immunity. The last set will include this same shot as well as the Rabies Vaccine. After this your pet will be good for a year or three years depending on which vaccines your vet recommends.

It is very normal for a 8 week old puppy to bite, all puppys still have baby teeth like children do, they lose the teeth and they need whatever they land their teeth on to bite onto it because it makes their teeth feel better. She will outgrow it I promise, also an 8 week old puppy isn't going to understand NO very well. Try to be consistent with teaching her not to bite and replacing the hand or whatever with a toy and tell her no, she's get it eventually. Puppies also do growl when they bite, it's a part of their playing, I hope this helps, good luck, you puppy will be fine, she's just a puppy!

After I started training my dog, he became very attached to me and loves to stay by side as long as he can. But just going to them won't help. You have to practice what they teach you outside of the class and you need to keep up with it at least every now and then after the class ends otherwise they'll just go back to previous habits. As for electric collars, I would say to not get one. In my experience, they're only a negative effect on your dog. Every dog is different, so unless you have a german shepherd or a really smart dog, it might take a while to train her. You might get frustrated with her, but go easy.
