I've done it myself, long time ago.
Now I'm free to sin as much as I like it.

That's not how it works. And yes they do still confess their sins.

i desire to advise praying to the Virgin Mary first, for the grace to make a solid confession. Then do a radical examination of ethical experience. once you enter the confessional or reconciliation room, tell the priest how long this is been considering your final confession. Then tell him all of the sins which you desire to admit. All mortal sins could desire to be confessed, yet confession of venial sins is non-compulsory (yet nonetheless a solid concept, as in doing so that it gets carry of grace to dedicate those sins much less often sooner or later). The priest could have you ever say an request for forgiveness. he will additionally assign you a penance, that could desire to be performed quickly later on. God bless! Dave

Yes.

The Catholic Church believes that "Only God forgives sin."

When a penitent person asks God for forgiveness, his (or her) sins are immediately forgiven.

Catholics also believe that when someone sins they not only hurt their relationship with God, they also injure the entire church, the body of Christ.

Jesus said, "I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19)

And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,"Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained." (Luke 20:22-23)

Oral confessing of sins is recommended over and over in both the Old and New Testaments:
+ James 5:16
+ Acts 19:18
+ Matthew 3:5-6
+ Mark 1:5
+ 1 Timothy 6:12
+ 1 John 1:9
+ Numbers 5:6-7
+ Nehemiah 9:2
+ Sirach 4:26

The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation with a priest ordained in the name of Jesus Christ not only reconciles the sinner to God but with the entire church, including you and me.

Remember all sacraments are encounters with God. This sacrament is a healing encounter between God and the penitent.

We still confess sins to a priest, yes.

But no, you're not "free to sin as much as you like" after confession.

You're no more free to sin than was the woman caught in adultery in John 8.

After Jesus forgave her, He didn't tell her that it was okay for her to go on sinning again. He told her, "Go and sin no more."

Of course. Many Catholics do it all the time in the sacrament of Reconciliation. You state your sins to the priest or other minister, and you are absolved. Priests can't tell your sins to anyone else, so it's confidential, but it's not so you can sin more, it's supposed to help reduce sin.

Catholics have never confessed their sins in church. They confess them privately to a Priest in a confessional.

You have it all wrong.

It is not a case of "Jesus did it all, there is nothing more I can do." Because of Jesus' sacrifice for our sins, He showed us that it is possible for us to obey God, to have our sins forgiven and enter heaven. He showed us self-donating love, how to suffer in a redemptive way, to make our death united with His and to bring grace to other people.

In short, confession reconciles us with God so it is always good to confess our sins with the help of a priest.

confession only works if the confessor promises and tries his best not to commit sin anymore by God's grace. God bless.
