I'm 15, and I'm planning to move out from Toronto to NYC, for college, meaning after i save enough money after high school. Hopefully I won't be alone, because one of my friends wants to come with me, so what would the process be? I mean, like what would i have to do to move there successfully and get into a college there? and does anyone know of any colleges or universities that specialize in the arts? (preferably dramatic arts)
If anyone can help, thanks.
And please note that i'm serious about this, not just some teenage fantasy, ok :)

Recently i've talked to my parents about it, and they said that all i needed to do was get the details and they'd pay my tuition... so that won't be apart of my costs.

Step 1 - Be serious about acting. Do as much as you can, summers too. Do tech work if you don't get a part. Get good grades, study for the SAT's as early as possible - right now would be a good time to start.
Step 2 - Apply to and get into a New York college: NYU, or Fordham, for example. Also consider schools just outside of NYC: Sarah Lawrence; SUNY Purchase; St. Johns, etc.
Step 3 - once you've been accepted, the school will help you make the required arrangements for living in the US.

It's much harder to try and move here first and then get into college - not recommended.

Also consider going to a canadian college and then moving to NYC - a local college degree does very little to improve your chances of getting an acting job

It's funny because at one time I had wanted to move to Toronto!

Your best bet would be to talk to a guidance counselor in regards to getting into a university down here for the arts (there are MANY). But just like Toronto, living here in NYC is VERY expensive. No doubt you would have to have roommates to help swing costs.

No diss...but Toronto is pretty much the "NYC" of Canada and is DEAD ON with many of the things we have down here...if not even MORESO with the arts and culture. If you can't swing NYC, take a closer look to what you have right in front of you!

I like in new york but I live in the country side 2 hours from the city it's beautiful in the country and I just take a train to visit the city for a day . It's too expeivise to live down there for a small apartment not the life I'm into ! I mean you could live somewhere esle and just take the train to work if you find a job down there. It is a beautiful city but think about it you most likely don't have a yard to have streets! But if it's what you really love then go for it girl

Apartments are very Expensive. A two bedroom Apartment can cost as much as $2,000.00 a month or more, depending on where in NYC you want to live.
