This sounds so funny but here is your neighbor's proof that he isn't nuts. He might be a little bit depressed and too worried about his job loss though.
Here's the Scoop: San Francisco to Turn Dog Poop Into Biofuel
March 21, 2006
Your house powered by pooch poop?
The idea may sound far-fetched, but officials in dog-friendly San Francisco, California, hope to harness the power of methane in doggie doo so it can be used for heating homes and generating electricity.
The technology of turning animal waste into energy was introduced in Europe some 20 years ago. It's practiced by hundreds of farms there, as well as by 16 U.S. dairy farms.
But San Francisco is believed to be the first U.S. city to explore the energy potential of pet waste.
In a pilot program to start this year, Norcal Waste, a garbage company that collects the city's trash, plans to use biodegradable bags and dog-waste carts to pick up the poop in one of San Francisco's most popular dog parks.
The waste will be run through a methane digester, a tank in which bacteria break down the feces to create methane. This biofuel can then be piped directly to a gas stove, heater, or anything else powered by natural gas.
"Scraping dog poop off your shoe, now that's something most people have been frustrated with for a long time," said Robert Reed, a Norcal spokesperson.
"Now we have an opportunity to turn this nuisance into something positive."
From Food Scraps to Dog Doo
Known for its green credentials, San Francisco already uses several recycling programs to divert almost two-thirds of its household garbage away from landfills. The city aims to divert all of its waste from landfills by 2020.
The poop-to-methane project is an extension of another bio-recycling program the city initiated ten years ago, when it began collecting food scraps from houses and restaurants and turning them into fertilizer for vineyards and organic farms.
Today 300 tons (272 metric tons) of food scraps are collected every day from more than 2,000 restaurants and tens of thousands of homes.

When he lost his job it was sort of a crisis, so the feces can represent the cash he needed to reserve for the lost of a job. He need to save/or gain something for what he lost. Feces represent food that gave him energy, and he needs energy, job, and money. This is how he like to express how he feels about the events of his life. Alot of times people either don't know or want to know directly how they feel. And yes he can become mentally ill after awhile if he doesn't deal with the issues more realistically. Mental illness is often a sane reaction to something that makes a person feel insane.

No he is not right about a coming energy crisis - several solar panels are now being produced to meet the demand for energy consumption. There will be energy crisis but not all countries will experience it - those major industrial countries like China who is now producing almost 90% of the world's needs is currently suffering from energy crisis and I don't see them saving their FECES to cope with the energy crisis THATS DISGUSTING. Your neighbor is clearly suffering from mental illness and should see a physician right away.

The man has serious problems and his wife should talk to his doctor about what's going on. He seriously needs help. Before he does something that will injure either him self or his family. It sounds like some where along the way after losing his job he suffered a psychotic break and needs help. Why has his wife not talked to the doctor before now?

He sounds mentally ill to me; he should see a doctor. Yes, the word "delusional" does seem to fit. If he keeps doing this for very long, people are going to wonder why it smells so bad and he will be locked up. He should go to a doctor before this happens. This is very bizarre behavior.

Oh that is so gross! Ew!!!
I wouldn't say just one thing makes him crazy. We all do something that others think is weird.
If I was this man's wife though I would talk to a dr just to get a professional option. Just in case. So I'd suggest you tell your neighbor to do that.
