If there was a fire at a hospital where there was a freezer full of frozen fertilized eggs, and you had to choose between saving all those blastocysts or saving a five-year old child in the hospital (you only have time to save one of those two), would you save the five-year old or thousands of fertilized eggs (who all have souls, if you really believe life begins at conception)?

I'm a Christian and I'm dedicated to the idea that life begins at conception. However, I'll concede that the term "conception" may be a tad simplistic in light of modern medical technology.

For me, the choice is simple...I would save the living breathing child. The blastocytes may have been alive (by my definition of life) when the scientists fertilized the eggs and the cells started dividing to form the blastocysts...but the act of freezing them killed them (again, by my definition of life). A doctor may be able to bring them back to life by implanting then in a female host, but at the moment of the fire, they are dead!

Those frozen blastocysts are no longer reproducing, growing, consuming energy...they are not alive according to several of the common definitions of life. God may have had a plan for each one of them from the moment they started to grow but human interference put those plans on hold...perhaps permanently. Not at all unlike the other ways we choose to interfere with his plans.

Imagine you are the fireman who decides to go back into the burning hospital after a batch of fertilized eggs. On the way you see a child. I'd carry the child out first.
Or say I am on the way out with the can of frozen embryos and I saw the child. I would toss it and carry the child.

AWWW! Do I have to?

I do believe that life begins at conception...but you know the 5year old will live and theres always a chance that the embryos inside of the eggs won't. So i would save the 5 year old.

It doesn't matter when "life begins", at conception, even if it isn't really a life, it could be and most likely will be born. If you really had to choose in your situation of course you would choose the children because not only would they feel the fire but are 100% alive. "those blastocysts" may or my not be alive but they only have a potential.

I would save the 5 year old. there is no proof that all the eggs are fertilized or will live outside the mother, but the 5 year old will live.

Yeah, and what about identical twins - the previously fertilized egg actually SPLITS IN TWO to become two embryos - does each only get half a soul?!?

this is harder to pinpoint the top date of concept than that's to pinpoint a individual's top date of beginning. i could think of this is why. And scientifically, existence does initiate on the 2nd of concept, even with the undeniable fact that *conscious* existence starts later. It has no longer something to do with faith or lack thereof.

Life begins at conception, because there are indications in the bible everywhere. God says in His Word "I knew you before the world began". If that is true and it is , since God cannot lie, God already had put our characters and everything that constitutes a human being, inside of us way before conception.
