you are correct!!
a tattoo with a persons name is not a well thought out idea.
what if you have a tattoo that reads... 'i love mary/harry'.
you break up the that person. you later meet the true love of your life.
eventually, you decide to become personal. at some point, the new true sees that....'i love mary/harry.
i can imagine that depending on the person, that tattoo could present a serious mental block.
for the most part, dennis rodman gave popularity to the tattoo.
for the most part, tattoos were used by societies to identify their members. in my opinion. a tattoo does not ad any value.

It's a lovely thing to do when you are in love and even better if you are married. You show the other person how much you care for them to the point where you mark there name on your body. However, it things would ever go bad, your stuck, hating the person and the name on you is only a reminder. It's not too bad, you could always cover it up with another tat.

Ir's just a Jynx. If you're thinking about doing it...dont. No matter how long you been with that person..dont do it!. 5 years? 10 years? 15 years?..doesn't matter! ..and for the person who commented above me..it's very rare that lovers who get each other's names tatted on each other end up lasting every long. For her and her husband....that's great. Something like that is rare...very. But 90% of the time....people who do it end up seperating.

I can understand peoples desires to do tributes to lost family and friends. But a lot of them are poorly done and I hate seeing a decent looking girl with a bunch of ink up and down her arms and legs not to mention the butt hat. How are those going to look in 10 years? Not at all desirable. I wish I had money to invest in tattoo removal technology. I would be a rich guy in no time. I can't think of anything I feel strongly enough about to have engraved in my skin. Boyfriend/Girlfriends name? No Way!

Personally I can't see getting a Tattoo of anything. I have managed to go without for almost 60 years and don't regret it in any way, shape or form.
BTW, my opinion is a personal one. I have friends with them as well as one of my children. The decision is always yours in the end. You asked for my position. I gave it but I don't want to sound like I am preaching. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Do yourself a favor though, consider carefully, you will have a very long time...

Well, I have to disagree with these people who say "Never!" & "It's a jinx!". That's bullcrap! My husband & I both have each other's names on us. (Ok - now the thumbs-down count is on....LOL) True enough, I don't know how old you are. We were both adults (in our 40's) when we got ours. We know we are always going to be together. We also discussed it, and if (God forbid) something would happen to one of us, we would still be happy to have the name of the one-true-love of our lives inked on us for the rest of our life.

The only time I would ever get a persons name, a representation of a name, or even a set of initials would be if they were my child or possibly if it were in rememberance of a loved one or it represented my family in some way.
Other peoples names just spell out doom for me.

Yes, it is a big mistake. Unless they are a close blood family member such as Mom and Grand ma. Also your kids names are ok too, because no matter what happens they will always be your kids.
