Fall Foliage for a New Yorker who doesn't drive...
If you don't drive, where can one grab a bus or train to see some foliage? Maybe take a small hike, visit some quaint town, and shop?

I don't want to be in New York City to be more specific. I'd rather trek upstate or maybe somewhere else...someplace accessible by train or bus. Oh yes, and I don't want to just see the foliage outside of a window by train or bus, I'd like to be outdoors.

You might want to check out Lee, Massachusetts.

It is the heart of the Berkshire region and has many quaint shops, outlet stores and areas where you can walk around and view the foliage (the Appalachian Trail runs through Lee). With the hot weather that happened, you may still be able to catch the leaves as they are starting to turn colors up that way.

I would have to suggest Ithaca, New York. Try Shortline Bus or maybe Greyhound a take a day trip there. There are beautiful waterfalls and gorges there and of course, fall foliage. They also have a very nice town. You wouldn't be disappointed if you go to Ithaca.
