Why is it so hard for people to accept other people's religion? What year is this already that some of these people "claiming" to speak for all atheists practically jump out of their seats foaming at the mouth at the mere thought of Christianity?

I hope I don't foam at the mouth.

This question gets asked often.

Following is a link to a great 5 minute video: "Why Do Atheists Care About Religion?"

Yes, some of us can be over-zealous sometimes, just like anyone else.

First, that is a thought provoking video blooz link too.
I am a Christian and it hurts me when I see anyone hate, foam at the mouth or disrespect others. But, that how people are, I been seeing it as long as I can remember. Children in kindergarten make fun of someone they not like or to build self-esteem. I not remember when I started believing in God, long time ago. But, I do remember before God I had compassion for others and I believe there are people today that are the same. Regardless of what they believe. And from watching the video link, I know of people who are not religious who are against abortion and alcohol. I not push my beliefs on anyone. But, I will answer questions when they ask. And I will vote for what I feel correct just like any other American. We can all say someone takes away our freedoms. But, that life. I not get everything I want either because some feel my taxes should pay for their children's education or my taxes pay for someone's food. Also, I not stupid and can buy my beer on Saturday. But, everyone has a choice and I respect that. Jesus never said I had to hit someone in the head with my Bible. I can accept whatever a person want for themselves and I hope they do the same with me. But, as I said at the first, it not matter what a person believe, Christian, Atheist, Muslim etc. There will always be those who hate, foam at the mouth and disrespect others. Because that how people are, I been seeing it for as long as I can remember.

People hold certain beliefs, and some people believe they are absolutely right and cannot accept or understand why anybody could be against them. This could go both ways, a Christian (or one from another religion) may believe that their beliefs in God are right or an athiest may think their belief in the non-existance of God is right. Both people are driven by faith. Faith is one of the strongest elements in humans(this itself is a belief that I have). If a person believes that their "faith" is right and on-top of that believes that they should tell other people and convince them to have the same type of faith as them; then, they jump out of their seats and either tell people to stop believing in God or condem them to Hell for not believing in God. I think that one of the main beefs that athiest would have or even perhaps more moderate Christians or non-Christians have against certain view-points such as condeming all non-Christains to hell is the element that seems to suggest that Christains are better than all other people, the over 7 billion ppl on Earth. I think overall, most people who are not fundamentalist in their own religion, would do not care if a Christian practiced his beliefs but did not condem the rest of humanity to hell for not believing those same beliefs. Just like a strong Christian believer would get upset at an Athiest who would claim that those who believe in God are ignorant and that they are obviously smarter and enlightened because of their viewpoints. I believe that people should respect each others beliefs, but this is not the case as many fundamentalist exist as well as those with strong convictions and the urge to "correct" other people's views. What was that verse in the Bible about judging others?

As an atheist I haven't foamed at the mouth yet. I defend your right to practice your religion, I simply question the logic behind. Perhaps religion simply gets more respect than it deserves. If I question your political beliefs you would not be offended (I hope) but if I question people's religious beliefs I am told that I am not respectful and I should accept. I am happy for people to question everything I believe as I feel I am capable of defending it.

Not at the mere thought of christianity. I haven't seen that. But at people trying to push beliefs. And trying to get it into schools.

When you all stop trying to take away the rights and freedoms of others I'll shut up.

When you stop trying to screw up education and scientific research in the country, I'll shut up.

When you all stop waging war on the mental and spiritual well being of others, I'll shut up.

Looks like I won't be shutting up anytime soon.

Maybe they feel threatened by something they don't understand or believe so they have to argue to make themselves sure and absolutely certain that there's no God.
