Much of his fan base did come from his father's fans after he died. But many are also the younger generation of nascar fans that like his attitude and way he presents himself (he seems like one of the guys). If people picked drivers on racing ability alone there would be more kyle and kurt busch fans. Those 2 can drive the wheels off a car but are total pricks. I am a huge junior fan and think he's a good driver. But he is with a mediocre team. Johnson and Gordon are great drivers with a great team, which equals success. A driver is only half of the equation in Nascar. This is a fact that Franchitti and Montoya are going to find true by never winning a championship at Ganassi. But either of them at a top team such as Hendrick or Roush would be very successful. I believe Earnhardt's true ability will show at Hendrick's with the equipment needed for a championship run.

People miss Dale Sr. that's why they relate to his son. That's the same thing that would happen to any of the top drivers, if they died, and had a son to follow in their footsteps. The only thing is, as life progresses, things get harder. And it's only obvious why Junior missed the chase. 2008 is gonna be very much different, and if anything is attracting more attention to NASCAR racing right now, it's going to be "the three amigos" racing for Hendrick Motorsports in 2008. Martin Truex Jr. will be the new star of DEI. And whoever is building those ticking time bombs of an engine, should get fired and find work somewhere other than racing.

As the spotlight has been on Jr, you cannot deny he is a great guy! For that reason alone is a great reason to cheer for him. Too bad most of his fans are obnoxious jerks!
The stats on Jr. have not been fair..... Jr. runs in the top 5 almost all the time.... leads most races..... and makes a piece of crap car a contender all the time.... But is he a Championship driver? That is hard to day as DEI is not a Championship team. Next year, Jr. will have the best equipment and should succeed. And why not cheer for him? He is probably one of guys with the most character out there. I am die hard Gordon and Johnson, but I look forward to Jr. becoming a memeber of the Hendrick family. He is a great guy who needs a great family! Too bad he brings all those cousins and other family they call the Red Nation.

I think tha the majority of Dale Jr. fans are hold-over fans from his dad. If Dale Jr. can't win at Hendrick Motorsports then he has no excuse, because HMS has the best equipment in NASCAR. I believe this is Jr.'s last chance to be a great racecar driver. If he doesn't start winning again at HMS he'll be driving his Busch car in the second series.

Jr is a good driver, he has had a bad season and rightfully so with all that has happen this season with DEI. No wins no chase, and no motors are a result of driving for his step-mom. How excited would you be to dive for a step-mom like Teresa. And with the early passing of his father, he has inherited the largest fan base in nascar. Next year without all the distractions and with better equipment from Hendrix, he should do much better. But to answer your question i think most Jr fans are because of his dad. He hasn't done enough to have so many fans. But more power to him.

I was a fan of his dad, met him several times. When Dale Sr died I was not a immediate fan of Jr but he grew on me, and I have been a fan ever since..I have met him on several occasions, he is such a down to earth cool guy, he loves his fans..Its been rough being a Jr fan the last couple yrs seeing how bad DEI has gotten, it hurts alittle to see him leave but he had no choice, its for the best, and he will prove to all the Dale Jr doubters out there, with the best equipment..Dale Jr will win...I'm so happy he is going to HMS next yr, I wish the Daytona 500 2008 was this coming weekend...I'm ready for him to have a great 2008...He has a enormous fan base that is behind him all the way.. Right now he is a good driver, he will be great the yrs to come..
Go Dale JR & HMS in 2008

I think many of his fans jumped on board with him out of respect for his father. But, he has kept those fans, and gained many more in the process. He has a winning personality and respect for the other drivers. Sometimes I think he is almost too nice! All the engines that blew this year driving with DEI, and not once did I see him blow his temper on camera. I sure would have. I am anxious to see him race next year, to prove what he can do. I just hope the pressure of racing for such a good team will not get to him. He has the pontential, and he will have the equipment, so hope he wins some races!!

I will always be a Sr. fan and probably a Jr. fan for life. For the most part its because Dale Sr. was taken away from us just a bit to soon and this guy they call Jr is the next best thing is demeanor. I mean he just seems like there is the real deal no made for TV guy what you get is him.
I would like to see him win but I don't really need that to like him. He has been up there just about every race and if you want just go back and see where he was running when he had those six blown engines and I think he probably would have made this dumb championship Chase BS with no trouble.

How about both? He is a good driver, he has proved that over many years. What has happened this past year might be answered by talking to his step-mother, Teresa. She has a stranglehold on DEI"s balls. That many blown engines just doesn't compute. I'd like to see Dale, Jr. set up on his own. He has already proven he has the balls to drive the car. The only question is, does he have the balls to do anything else? Good Luck & Blessings

MOst of his fans are his fans because of his dad...or at least they started that way. Personally I am a Gordon fan but I was very impressed when he first came on NASCAR as the "Young gun who would knock Gordon off his throne". Every time he was interviewed the reporter would set him up with a question that was expected to make him say, Yeah, Im the one who is going to take over and dominate or some other kind of BS. But he refrained from that and instead was always polite and respectful. . He has handeled all the hype this year with a lot of class. To me he seem to be a fairly decent kid and a good driver and I hope he does well at HMS......after Jeff retires, lol....
