Try an easy ski mountain ("hill"), such as Mad River in Ohio. I do not recommend going to a high altitude ski area (like most of the ski areas in Colorado) if you are wanting to learn to ski, and you are a beginner. Reason for this is that the high altitude will tire you out very fast (thin air, less oxygen). Additionally, mountains at Keystone and A-Basin are very challenging. A green run at Keystone (in Dillon, Colorado) is more like a blue run at most ski areas in the eastern USA.
However, later on, after you have gotten into skiing and like it, definitely go to Keystone or the other popular resorts (they're fun). The scenery in Colorado is spectacular. Unless you've been living in the higher altitudes for at least a few months, you will tire out quite easily.
If you truly want to have fun, try skiboarding instead of skiing. It's easier, more intuitive, and you will be able to focus more on fun and exploring the mountain. Skiboarding is so easy that most people don't need lessons to do it. And you will be able to push yourself harder, and try more challenging runs sooner.

Keystone is great especially for beginners and you can search online and get good deals on condos at River Run which is right next to the slopes. There's ice skating and night skiing, tubing, big terrain park etc and you can also drive over to Breckenridge which is about 10 minutes away. Both have lots to do apart from ski. Breck is a nice place too. Personally I love A Basin and learnt to ski there, they have great instructors and if you can do greens there, they are equivalent to blues at Keystone and Breck but the facilities are a bit more basic. If the condos are out of your price range, check out BW @ Lake Dillon, very reasonable rates, nice rooms, close to Breck and Keystone and there's a brewery and Irish pub just down the street.

Well, we need more specifics. Where are you? Do you want to go out of state, across the country, around the world? Are you looking for beginner area, intermediate, advanced?
Anyway, the Salt Lake City, UT area is probably perfect. There are numerous ski resorts within a half hour's drive of SLC. Best snow on earth and great terrain. Snowbird, Alta, Park City, etc.
Hope this helps. Have fun!

Go to Summit County in Colorado. There are a lot of nice ski areas. Great towns and outlet shopping. Not too far from Denver if you want to do something there.

go to snowshoe WVA. it shouldn't be too far a drive, depending on where in TN you live. its about 4 hours from tri-cities (bristol, kingsport, johnson city) if you are more west in TN, then fly west. copper mtn colo has these outdoor fire pits that are pretty cool.
