You can ask the doctor to put some numbing cream on the skin so that you don't feel the prick, but usually a shot hurts when the medicine is being injected and there's nothing for that I'm afraid, except to try and relax the muscle. What also helps, especially with lidocaine is to tap the area before the shot. It kind of numbs and confuses the senses at the same time :)

Slaughtering with a sharp knife through the neck is better, as the animal would lose a lot of blood quick and would go in to dazed mode therefore not feeling much pain. Studies have been done on cows which shows that the brain reacts less to the slaughter than via electrocution or stunning. This proves that slaughter is in fact far better than stunning or even via lethal injection. Slaughter helps to remove the blood and acts as a natural pain sedative, the lethal injection will contaminate the animal and may consequently be harmful to eat. Stunning is extremely hurtful, but leaves the problem of removing the blood for later.

Shots arn't usually painful they just sting. I think for most people it's the thought that hurts. Keep your arm relaxed, take slow calming breaths and don't look and the most you will feel is a slight sting.

Yes, ask your doctor to add one cc of lidocaine to the medication and it will stop the burning sensation from most injections. I do this all the time and you feel no pain.

Yes, relax and then ignore the area. The tenser you are and focused on the injection site the more it hurts.
