No, you can't play your own music while playing a game, but I've heard that a future update for the PS3 might allow you to listen to music while playing games.

But you can listen to your own music on the PS3's harddrive while surfing the web. When you start playing a song, press the PS button and then you can go to the Internet browser while your music is playing.
