As you'll see from the photos, a girls holes are closer together, the boys are further apart. By 12 weeks, that space on a boy is filled with his testicles. Once they are both decended he may be neutered.

...look at it's genitals. You should be able to clearly tell what it is.

But if not, When you adopted it, was it spayed? If it's been spayed, there should be a small scar on the belly, and you could probably feel a bump under the skin from it. that's for females of course.

If it wasn't altered, and is a boy, it will have testicles. If it was altered, males can still be identified as having had them at one point.

Males and females have distinct differences.

Re: Gender confusion

If you have any doubts about the gender and telling yourself, when you bring the kitten in for it's shots,all you have to do is ask the vet to check. That is a definite way to tell.

there are two holes below the tail on cats. One is the anus, the other is the genitals. On both males and females, the hole below the tail is the anus. The one below that on females looks like a slit, and on males looks round.
