We are all evil but our spiritual leaders should be a lot less evil, but often aren't. This usually means exit left. As for the congregation the parable of the wheat and tares applies(Matthew 13:25-30)

Woohoo!!! I'm sorry. I'm not celebrating your question, just the revelation that there's someone else out there that has run into a similar problem!
My husband and I do not go to church and we do not take our children to church because there are so many hypocrites! Certain members of my family have thoroughly griped me out for this fact. The church-goers that we have encountered...their hypocrisy knows no bounds. It's incredible...we went to this church one time, and we went to lunch afterwards, and we ran into some of the people that we had just met in the church. I thought, cool...finally meeting some people our age (early 30's) and maybe this time they'll be normal! Yeah. NOT. One of the men that we met wasn't even with his wife...he was with his girlfriend. He actually asked that we not tell his wife that we saw him there. HELLO! I didn't even know his wife, so telling her wouldn't be an issue, and if I did know her, of course I'd say something. Cheating sack of....
Those people are not the kind of example I'm looking to set for my children. Therefore, my husband and I lead decent lives and we hope that what we teach our children will be enough.
Nope. We don't go around acting holier-than-thou, either! My husband and I have made our fair share of mistakes, but we are not hiding behind some religious mask, waving our hands in the air like we don't care what people think of who we really are! Like I said, we try so hard to just be good people and be the best role models for our children that we can possibly can be!
Good luck to you in all you do! Stay real =)

I personally indeed would be very happy if the ancient Norse/Germanic law would be reinstituted which made oath breaking a crime worse than murder and equal to kinslaying.
That would cut down on the politicians and lawyers parasiting on society as well as making the media and commericals a lot more palatable.
Unfortunately modern day society prefers things the way they are 'cos those in power are the one's commiting the sins AND making the laws.
I guess the people indeed got the government they deserve, alas.

God will deal with them, unless there isn't a God in which case they will get off scott free.
Seriously, wake up and smell the coffee. The people preaching to you are just that.. people.. liars and hypocrites just like the rest of us. You don't need a corrupt church or a silly old book to tell you how to live your life.

We are all hypocrites at times - Most of us thankfully not to the extent of wife beaters or pedophiles who parade around like good Christian folks. I have problems with hypocrites and those liars who are just so good..who never seem to get caught...but it comes down to I can not do anything about it globally so I take personal action. If someone like that is in my life I will not tolerate it.

i understand what you're saying. in my church we had an incident and it was hard for me to trust my pastor again. i didn't seek revenge...i prayed for my pastor, the clergy and the congregation. but this just doesn't happen in the church. it happens at school, work...etc. this is an issue for everybody, not just the church. just because i am a christian does not mean i should be "perfect" because i am not. we are people too.
God will punish sin in due time.

Everyone is a hypocrite at one time or another, even in the simplest things, so should the entire WORLD be punished for hypocrisy?

really all you can do is pray about it to god , and don't change who you are , there is evil everywhere and people see it , its part of living on an earth where Satan was thrown , but lucky for you , you have god , he is your comfort now , and imagine him , he's seen it all ever since he created man , can you imagine?

I've known lots and lots of them, man. Don't get too focused on punishment. What they need is healing. They need to be forgiven.

No one deserves to get punished, even if they're hypocrites.
Punished isn't exactly the right word, as I would say.
