Has anyone ever invented anything that collects water from air? Is there such a concept? Anything?

I was thinking that a device that does just that would make it easier to live in places like the Sahara desert. Correct? Or is there water to be collected from the Saharan air?

I'm looking for something other than a simple dehumidifier. I'm talking about a device that can collect massive amounts of water from air.

The only such device is what is called a dehumidifier. These are available in appliance departments everywhere.

The dehumidifier extracts about all the water that can be extracted from the air, and the air has to be pretty damp for the extracted water to amount to much.

You are right to wonder about the amount of water in the air in desert places. It is correct that there is not enough moisture in the air in a place like the Sahara desert. Your dehumidifier would only produce noise--No water...

Sorry.

I don't care what size it is, it is still a dehumidifier but I don't think you will find massive amounts of moisture in the air over the Sahara Desert. I don't know the relative humidity but I would guess it is in the 10 to 20 % range on a really "damp" day.

The Sahara is dry because the air over it is dry.
It would not be a desert otherwise.
De-humidifiers work by condensing water out of humid air.
The Sahara experiences large temperature variations
during the day, (would not do so if the moderating influence
of water were present), and there is no dew.

On Sunday I read of an Australian company who has invented a water cooler for offices using this technique. They have 2 models, one extracts about 20 litres per day from the air while the big one, priced at $20k will give you 1000 litres.

They have multiple patents on these machines.

Great idea but someone else has been there.

It's called a De-Humidifier, you can find them in damp basements across the country.
