It really is difficult to remain unbiased when it comes to discussing Americans. They arrogate to themselves the right to act as this planet's policeman, to condemn other countries for real or perceived breaches of human rights and to rail against forms of government which in American eyes are less democratic than theirs. As Americans are such good Christians, surely they know the passage in the Bible that says: "O thou hypocrite, before thou wouldst remove the splinter from thy brother's eye, attend to the beam in thine own eye!" Never has a passage from the Bible been more apt. So naturally do Americans become defensive when their own shortcomings are pointed out to them, because to face the truth would be unbearable.
Which other self-proclaimed peace-loving country has waged so many wars against smaller defenceless countries, has allowed the members of their military to commit atrocity after atrocity going back to WW2, the Korean War, Vietnam, and now Iraq?
In what other country do you need to be a millionaire or at least be able to raise millions in order to be elected to parliament or chief executive?
Where else on this globe has the education system broken down and/or deteriorated to such an extent that children no are no longer able to read and write or do simple arithmetic and need to take remedial classes upon entering college?
In which other country with the exception of certain Middle Eastern nations does a small fundamentalist religious minority have the power to manipulate both government and the media to enforce a Victorian concept of morality upon an unwilling population?
I could go on and on, but let this suffice.
No wonder Americans are sensitive when it comes to discussing their shortcomings

I think the statements you posted are presumptuous, at best.

Call them the government's shortcomings, and not my own. People blame Americans for WW2 or Korea or Vietnam... I wasn't even alive when these happened, so how am I responsible?

I am not arrogant about my country. I know the government is messed up, and I don't think that we should be butting into the affairs of other countries. And I'm not Christian. I think it strange that such a religiously diverse country has gotten the the idea that we're all Christian. And the education system isn't deteriorating. Look at me- I'm a highschooler taking seven academic solids (4 of which are college-level), and school takes up ALL my time.

Yeah that was a bit defensive, but what do you expect when you take the offensive?

I'm an American and have never had the desire to dictate my morals onto any other nation. Actually, I spend a lot of time working and making a life for my family so I really don't have the time to give a crap about what's going on in another country. Maybe you should go back, click edit, and replace 'Americans' with 'US Government'. I can not control what my goverment does or says.
The problem is with humanity as a whole, not any single nation. By stereotyping all americans your're being arrogant

Yeah, um... about WW2? We didn't get involved until another country bombed ours. Actually, we didn't want to be involved. We preferred to stand at a distance and support the Allied powers with finance and supplies. And, if you want to get really technical, the USSR did more damage in the long run by using their partition of Germany to punish the Germans for the war (see: the Berlin Wall).
Yes, yes... generalization at its best. Anyone would be defensive when lumped into a generalization of that magnitude. Have you no concept of the fact that most Americans opposed most of the wars that you mentioned? I guess not.

you have a major attitude problem. get your head out of your butt and face reality.
re; atrocities in ww2 -- hitler ran the death camps, not americans. the japanese conducted the bataan death march, not americans.

americans have donated more time and treasure to help ungrateful, corrupt jerks in other countries. i suppose that you think that the leaders of african countries haven;t stolen billions from their own people to keep themselves in power. same for the corrupt arab sheiks.

i suppose that you think that the educational system in countries such as afghanistan is superior , since it doesn;t allow girls to attend classes since the taliban doesn't like women having any kind of life.

you don;t say which third rate podunk excuse for a county you are from -- i guess you are ashamed of it. can;t say that i blame you.

I'm sure that the Thumbs Down will follow, but Nationalism is in every respect a religion by itself, when all things are considered.

In America's defense, I can only say that if it was not America doing what you listed, it would be another nation so long as it had the strength to exert its will on other nations.

Is this being defensive: Those that follow a god that kills is a hypocrite. Is that defensive? Is a god that kills the problem or is it those that follow a god that kills? Which is true. Did god not kill or do people believe that a murderous god is good. Its quite a dichotomy!
