Whenever I ask a question or make a statement questioning their beliefs or existence of God, they get mad at me. I even get responses such as, "You are going to hell for not believing," or "Doesn't hell scare you?" I have no proof of hell even existing so why would I be afraid? Many even walk away from our conversation. Is it the fact that maybe I am correct and they just don't want to admit it? This is not meant to judge them in anyway. I just want to know why they do that?

Hoosier actually Christians are the first to bring up the subject of religion and when they find out I am an atheist they start throwing their beliefs at me. Telling me how can I not believe in the existence of God. So what better to do then defend my beliefs back?

Oldschoolove I have met alot of nice and accepting Christians and I don't believe that all are like that. I just put up my guard whenever they start shoving the Bible in my face. If I want to believe then I would have believed in the first place.

You haven't been talking to a christian.

You must be talking about Christians who don't do their 'homework'. When you meet an intelligent Christian who knows a lot about his religion and the apologetics of his faith, he will gladly debate with you and discuss with you. I know a ton of them.

There are Christians out there, however, that just believe and don't really know why they believe. These are what I call 'cultural christians'- who are only Christian because they were brought up that way. With those people, you will get angry huffs when you attempt to debate them.

As far as Hell, I totally agree with you! I think is ridiculous when people use Hell as a threat to people who don't believe in Hell. They are just trying to 'save' you I guess. It's not that they're being mean, they probably just want you to look at it from their perspective.

But I agree with lisampn. It's not out right to damn people to Hell! It's Gods...we aren't God! NO ONE - not even the most religious Christian has the right to judge. Don't let that turn you away from Christianity, because that is a problem that a lot of Christians have without realizing it.

OK, I'll bite.

I have done a lot of reading lately in metaphysics. I have read enough to see a pattern of beliefs that are based on the flimsiest personal experiences and thought patterns. I have also seen these same people mocking Christians for their beliefs.
I could go on and on about other 'intellectual' religions.

I am not very good at talking to people myself who ask these questions. It is good to ask questions, but check your motives at the door. Make sure all of your beliefs are based on proof if you are going to hold others to the same standard.

There is more than ample proof that the Bible is truth; but there also comes a point that one has to step out in faith and trust Christ as your Lord and Saviour. I, nor anyone else, can do that for you. Otherwise, that day, when you face God, he will show you how you rejected Him in spite of all that you say now, by exposing your heart and motives.

Because people are afraid of questions. I personally believe that questioning and seeking proof that my faith is real is something that everyone should do. I spend time everyday examining the bible and praying...but more importantly when I have the time I find a quiet place and try to puzzle out my faith.

I'm sorry that you have had some bad experiences with Christians.

I hope that you are still willing to make people check their way of thinking by asking questions...and I hope that you do think all Christians are like that...it makes my heart a little sad!! (:

Almost all xians are hypos. They hate, judge, discriminate, censor, alienate, seems as if they never even read the bible or understood what Jesus was teaching. As renowned Atheist Madalyn Murray O'hair said " I never met a christian that didn't hate me". While I have met some that do not hate me, they judge me & say their typical things such as, I'll pray for you, I worry for your eternal soul, you are going to hell. Some get very nasty & act more like the devil than a loving xian. They also can't stand that I know more about God, Yaweh, the bible & xianity overall. I have left many so-called xians speechless & that is when the insults begin, because they have no real facts to back them. Always question

Here is a little play on xianity
Ten Commandments
I. Thou shalt not believe all thee are told
II. Thou shalt always seeketh knowledge & truth
III. Thou shalt educate thy fellow man in the laws of science
IV. Thou shalt remember the atrocities committed in the name of God
V. Thou shalt leaveth valuable contributions for future generations
VI. Thou shalt live in peace with thy fellow man
VII. Thou shalt liveth this life thy has to it's fullest
VIII. Thou shalt follow a personal code of ethics
VIIII. Thou shalt maintain a strict seperation between church & state
X. Thou shalt support thee who follow these commandments

Remember many xians truly believe in God & that is their right. I don't ever question their beliefs unless they question mine or try to force their beliefs into my home. I would never want to take away the secure feelings many xians have with belief in God. I think of the belief in God this way, many ppl are not strong or have common sense & need to be told how to act or behave & believing in God is having the secure loved feelings of a parent. They need it so who am I to try & shatter that?

*sigh* i am a christian...sometimes i do get frustrated when someone asks me a question...but it's towards the question, not them...people ask some of the most retarded questions about Latter day saints (mormons) lol...but most of the time, i love the questions. it depends on the attitude of the questioner...i mean, if the person isn't serious with the question and is only trying to start a debate, i refuse to answer him...he won't listen to me...however, i would never accuse someone of going to Hell...that's not my decision. and if you have a question, then ask me. i will answer to the best of my ability, or if i find myself unable to put my answer into words, then i can lead you to someone who can explain....and i wish other Christians wouldn't get upset. you can't force religion on others...and that goes for all religions including atheism...

I am a Christian and by no means do I or any other Christian have the right to say you are going to hell. As far as them walking away cant tell you. I have a lot of friends that are atheist, I don't sit and hound them because of their beliefs or lack thereof, to each their own.

Yikes! Ive been on here forever and I see that "sometimes" but usually its not hellfire and brimstone. With that said, the ones who are damning you to hell and being rude, in a few words, just shouldnt be. Just as I dont feel all nonchristians think im delusional, stupid and should be on meds just because alot on here tell me I am. I really hate to sound flippant, but it really does go both ways on here, unfortunately.

“Question with boldness even the existence of God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear”

-Thomas Jefferson

It is quite obvious that those who are brainwashed into their theology, or just choose not to study theology in general and the history from which it came, could never have an ounce of personal spirituality, as spirituality is supposed to be just that, personal.

i guess when people feel so strongly about something they can get angry. Even though Jesus was not like that, he was understanding, patient and loving. I am not angry at you but hell is real. I used to not believe in it or God and i would actually get angry when Christians would tell me about God. I can only ask you to really pray and see for yourself if God is real.

How would you respond if someone repeatedly and persistently questioned your moral fiber because you dared not have their beliefs? It irritates you, doesn't it? You are doing the exact same things to Christians.

Poor, sad little atheist, so weak in your atheism that you have to "prove" it to everyone else...
