Well, maybe I might split an infinitive or two, or even end a sentence with a preposition now and then. However, the miserable condition of the proper use of the English language is a shame!
Especially with the advent of computer "chat" language, and now "IM-ing," people wish to extend the "dismissal" of proper grammar, spelling, etc. to all forms of written communications. This is both an outrage and an insult to our language and to the FUNCTION of the written language, which is the clear communication of ideas, thoughts, and information.
There is no excuse for or good reason to allow the deterioration of proper written and spoken English. It is vital to the cohesion of our society. Just as the shattering of the language at the Tower of Babel caused the peoples to split into different nations, the same results could happen if this trend continues.
Have a polite day.

I agree but lack of proper schooling, and the idiocy of text messaging and the heavy use of slang drags it down even further. We also have to be aware there are many people on this site that English is not their primary language so they can't be held to the same level of proper English as our own. I personally cannot stand it when people do not practice proper English but unfortunately it surrounds me every day. Practice it in your own home with your children is the best I can offer.

If you think this is bad, check out some of the questions in the Education category. If you're expecting to see proper English on this site, you're in for a rude awakening. Those that do use proper English are in the minority.

I do kind of agree with you, but you also have to know that there are many people on here who do not have english as their first language.

i use proper english, but its so easy to just type in shorter versions of the word(slang) and its easy to misspell because this doesnt have an automatic spellcheck

i don't mind slang, but it's the text talk that is stupid to me. It's just idiotic and lazy. I'm sorry but typing things out helps build basic computer skills (duh i.e. typing speed and accuracy). By text typing all the time people don't pick up speed that may help them later on down the road.

Its not as bad here as it is on criagslist,Indianapolis, It amazes me at the amount of people that couldn't spell if their life depended on it,especially the "wanted" section but in every category theres alot of people that just can't spell, even four letter words boggle their minds it seems.Glade I'm only here temporarily.
