The answer to this question is found in the Bible in the book of First John. Here's a small breakdown with quotes:

1. If we keep His commandments:
(1Jn 2:3) And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

2. If we love the brethren:
(1Jn 3:14) We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

3. If we possess the Spirit of Christ:
(1Jn 4:13) Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

4. If we keep ourselves from sin:
(1Jn 3:6) Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

So, there's a handful. Really, reading the 5 chapters of I John will give a much broader answer. First John is a book that, about many things, says over and over, "This is how you know...".

Hope that helps.

True Christian is not easy to find these days.
Most people don't even know what being a True Christian actually means. In fact, most people have never really heard the Gospel that Jesus brought to us during his life's ministry.
Have you?
Or have you just accepted without question the doctrine of the church you were born into because it was the religion of your parents and grandparents?
If so, you might want to examine the beliefs of that organization objectively for yourself, and determine if in fact their practices have a sound foundation in Biblical teaching.
I tell you these things because I found myself in this exact quandary not that long ago, when upon my own unbiased study of God's word, I was astonished at how spiritually misguided I had been by the teachings I had been brought up with.

A true Christian is a person who has put his or her faith and trust in the person of Jesus Christ and fact that He died on the cross as payment for sins and rose again on the third day to obtain victory over death and to give eternal life to all who believe in Him. John 1:12 tells us: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” A true Christian is indeed a child of God, a part of God’s true family, and one who has been given new life in Christ. The mark of a true Christian is love for others and obedience to God’s Word (1 John 2:4; 1 John 2:10).

It is written, a man must be born again if he is to be saved from the torment of hell.

You ask how one knows if they are true saints of the most high, and it is written that if a man is not reborn, born again in his spirit, when he suffers physical death, his soul will be cast into the fires of hell.

I will not only give you what the scripture says about a man who has been born again, I will give you my very account, for they are one in the same.

I realized that I was a sinner in need of forgiveness and if I was not reborn, born again, the spirit in me which was dead because of sin, would be cast into the fires of hell.

I asked Jesus to forgive me of my sins. I began to cry and before I stopped, my entire life as I knew it had been changed. All things were made new.

The way I acted, talked, throught, all things had changed. I was no longer one who was dead in sin, but was now a new creature in Christ, alive and for the first time in my life, truly happy.

So how do you know you are a believer, your very heart will have been changed. Your soul that was once dead in you because of sin will now be alive in Christ. And all things will be new.

If you have confessed Jesus as your Lord and saviour and asked Him into your heart. AND< if you repent of your sins and confess them, knowing that is commanded of you, not just suggested, AND, do you live like Jesus, think like Jesus, REmember we are commanded IF YOU LOVE ME OBEY .
IF we do those things and allow God to give us a new mind and a new heart, we are a new creation. Are we born again, born of the SPirit and have no desire to sin?
Thsese things determine if you are a Christian, do you read scripture and believe it and then act on it. Do you pray???
BEing like Jesus is what being Christian means.. If we are doing that, ,then yes we are. If not, NO we are only offering lip service to God which He will not recognize.

Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

we are told plainly what it takes to be a SAINT. does the world know Gods commandments.

Well the bible is very clear about who is and who is not. God says those that have not the Spirit of God , are none of His. There are many counterfeits today right in the churches every Sunday. They are deceiving themselves, they are living a double life, thinking that God cannot see what they are doing all week long.

There is only one way....you are either Born Again/Baptized (a Christian) or you are not Baptized (not a Christian).

There is no gray area.

As for "true/false....good/bad....etc.

...we leave that up to God because there is a Final Judgment coming upon all flesh.

Even the so-called "faith or belief" that you have is a gift of God's Grace....

Baptism is something that God the Holy Spirit does. WE can do nothing.

I believe that Christ is God, that he resurrected from the dead and was born of a virgin. This establishes Romans 8:9.
