From a website:
"Heathen and Communist nations have laws against reading the Bible or having prayer in public schools, but did you know that God, the Bible, prayer and witnessing are ALSO BANNED and OUTLAWED on the schools and campuses of so-called "Christian" AMERICA! This is clearly a wilful rejection of the laws of God! On many of the same campuses and universities where the Gospel of Jesus Christ is illegal, accredited courses in the OCCULT, Hinduism and WITCHCRAFT are available to interested students!"
Furthermore, in "Christian" America, it is now ILLEGAL to celebrate CHRISTMAS, the birth of Christ, in public schools, or even to have a nativity scene on any public property! Even the giving of religious CHRISTMAS CARDS to classmates is against the law!

I am none the wiser with some saying true and some saying false. Can the ones who say it is true back it up with examples please?

Almost all statements are incorrect.
However, in public schools it is against the law for the teachers to lead prayers during school hours. Students are free to pray or read Scriptures during their time.

No, it is completely false.
One of the rights enshrined in the US Constitution is freedom of religion. The First Amendment begins: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" .
Over the years, this has been interpreted to mean that schools are not allowed to have any *official* religious activities. Prayers and Bible readings must not be part of the official school day. This was affirmed most famously when in 1963 an activist called Madalyn Murray O'Hair took her son's school to the US Supreme Court - and won, ensuring that official Bible reading was removed from schools.
However none of this removes a teacher or student's right to take part in Christian events outside the official curriculum. It is possible for them to set up a Bible reading circle - as long as it takes place out of school hours. There is nothing banning them from celebrating Christmas - as long as other religious adherents also have the right to celebrate their festivals.
Indeed, the American Civil Liberties Union, which fundamentalist Christians love to hate because it backs atheists when they fight for the right to have non-religious schools, has also acted several times on behalf of Christians when their right to distribute Christian literature in school has been challenged by the school administration.
The stuff about accredited witchcraft courses is, of course, nonsense.
The trouble is that Christians need to believe that they are persecuted. They make up about 80% of the population of America, all but two of the members of Congress actively affirm that they are Christians, the President himself is a hard-core Christian: yet they still want to believe that the Government is out to get them. I don't understand it, myself.

Christmas isn't CHRISTIAN it's Pagan and was outlawed and illegal along with its evil counter-part Easter when this country was first established by the Pilgrims who escaped from England to be freed from the wicked Roman Catholic rule.
Prayer may not be in the Public School system any longer, but that doesn't keep a person from praying WHERE EVER he/she is - does it?
No matter who outlaws the Gospel of Jesus Christ, He will prevail in the end!
God Bless You

I have read the answers with interest and, being British, feel that I am not in a place to offer any other comment than this...
It would seem that 'political correctness' is THE single, MOST destructive force in the world today! It MAY have started as a 'good idea', BUT like so many other 'good ideas' it has BECOME perverted and CAUSES far more problems than it solves!!! It causes far more division and mistrust than ANY religion wolrdwide!

That is what is usually termed "utter bullsh*t". This person made up EVERYTHING they said on the spot. They're just bigots, don't let them bother you.
But to be more detailed...
Religion isn't banned from schools. That's an outright lie. American isn't a Christian nation to begin with (if we were, we'd be a theocracy). You can't make a religion illegal on a public campus- that goes against our laws (you know-freedom of religion and all that). It's not illegal to celebrate a religious holiday, either. Some people to be "politically correct" have decided against the nativity scene, but they're not banned. And giving out cards isn't against the law either.

Depending on the jurisdiction, it might be true. Local authorities have banned Bible reading and prayers on school grounds.

false, nobody is going to arrest your kid for reading a Bible by himself in a public school. Now if a teacher does it or other kids complain about him trying to push his religion on them then it might be a problem or if a cat does it then the cat will be arrested and sent to a investigational facility which is really a crock because cats deserve freedom too.

Prayer and the bible are not banned from schools. They just can't have school sponsered prayer, etc. Good goddess they just don't know when to give up. Liars. I hate liars. Jesus does too. Won't they be surprised.
SOME Christians just aren't happy unless they are taking over the damn world.
