In the US, items are cheaper and taxes are lower, but services are more expensive and you need to buy certain things that you don't need in Canada, such as health insurance. If you are a high-salary professional, you will probably be better off in the US due to lower taxes.

Like other people said, it would depend widely on where you go: big city, suburb or rural area.

I will think that Canada is better for now and in future (even when US economy picks up). Canada lifestyle is slower pace while US is having a hectic lifestyle. Canada is a good place to retire, or recuperate from all the stress that all humans are facing. Of course, the living expenses in Canada is on the high side, comparable to US, but there won't be much you can do there in fact. Except for being a coach potato, fishing by the rainbow lake, farming etc. **RELAX** This is my personal view only. Make the right choice ya. Cheers

I answered this question a couple of days ago and for some reason, the answer was deleted.
I'll start by saying, the cost of living in the US is lower than Canada.
Food, utilities and gasoline is 20% or more cheaper here depending on where you choose to live. Two reasons to not go to a large city is security and the high cost of living. Pick a small country town and you'll love it. Need help in finding a place, contact me and I'll give you a good recommendation.

Canada's standard of living is roughly 20 percent less than that in the USA. Here, in the great white north, you generally get taxed to death. So many professionals have left Canada for the states over the last 20 years because of poorer pay and over taxation here. As for some commodities, some things are better here. Ice cubes are cheaper in Canada.

Pretty high in terms of how much of your wages you can expect to spend on the basics (virtually all of them). What gets you varies from place to place. In the rust belt, it'll be the low wages that make life tough, in tech-heavy communities in CA, it'll be housing, in still others, taxes will eat up your income. And, of course, health care is extremely expensive.

Now, coming to visit, at the moment, might not be so bad, as the US Dollar is down vs the Candadian, so as long as you're earing in Canada, you can take advantage of the exchange rate.

it is not easy to immigrate from there to here. i moved to there via husband. it may be the only for you unless you have a sponsor certain degrees.

right now you will make out like a bandit as your dollar is higher than ours. that said, food, cars, clothes insurance are much cheaper here. but so are wages. depending on where you live housing is the main difference. it varies greatly from city to state.

The cost of living in the US varies WIDELY depending on where you are sampling. Could you be more specific about where in the US you are interested in particularly?

The best part is not having to pay PST/GST on everything.
