I am almost positive I have lice. My head has always been VERY itchy. So I just took a bath, and soaked my hair all the way in soapy water for a few minutes, can that drown or kill lice? I soaped my hair up also, and combed through it for about 10 minutes, and got 5 lice out. My head hasn't been itchy. Could it be POSSIBLE they are gone? Is there any way to get rid of lice at home? If not, tell me the BEST shampoo to use on lice and where to get it. I am VERY stressed, knowing that I have lice. Please help, I am very scared, I am only 11. Can anything happen to me if I don't get rid of lice? Thank you so much if you answer, I appreciatte it.

I have gotten lice before, when I was like exactly your age. I know how you feel and I was very stressed too.
You can buy lice shampoos at the store - i used results . I tried nix, but it didn't work for me. I also heard that conditioner suffocates the lice - so use that on your hair as well and leave it in a long time. No, you cannot drown lice I have heard, but I still don't know the reason.

Also, lice aren't the ONLY thing that make your head itch. It could have been a skin irritation that the shampoo helped to calm it down. Have your mom check your head. If she sees little eggs glued to the hair (not loose, glued right onto the strand) - than these are knits - lice eggs. If they are loose they are just dandruff. But if she finds nothing - you might have never had lice in the first place.

If you don't get rid of the lice its not like your gonna die or anything. But please get rid of it as soon as possible because it can make you sick in extreme cases. Plus, you don't want it to spread.
Good Luck!

I am sorry to break it to you, but one simple wash cannot rid you of lice.

However, there is a very good shampoo Fairy Tales that is the best on those annoying little creeps.

Also you shouldn't be sure they are all gone because even if they are if you don't take good care they can come back.

If you are really stressed you should get a special lice comb they sell them at CVS they have really close bristles that get the lice out.

I hope this doesn't scare you, but if you don't get rid of lice you'll get itchy beyond belief and can get a bleeding scalp. Don't worry, though, it doesn't happen right away, you should be fine.

I really hope this helps you, I've had lice and I hated it. I feel sorry for you.

Once again, hope this gives you a helping hand.

I normally only answer pet rat questions but I'm so excited about answering this question for you because I've just received some new info that I would like to pass on to everyone.

Holistic lice remedy that can be safely used for the whole family, including pregnant women.

In a spray unit combine:
50% Vinegar
25% Original Listerine
25% Distilled Water (to avoid the chemicals in tap water)

Saturate your hair with the mixture and let it stay for 15 minutes. The Listerine actually penetrates the nits (eggs) and bursts them. You're getting rid of the lice and the nits at the same time.

Take a nit comb and dip it in vinegar and comb through your hair, after each comb-through dip the nit comb in vinegar.

Now shampoo your hair as you usual do.

The only thing I didn't catch from the person who told me about it is whether or not the procedure has to be repeated, or if it is a done deal the first time around.

You can't ignore your head lice. Not only is it uncomfortable for you but, just as someone passed them onto you, you can pass them onto someone else.

First of all, if you don't get rid of the lice, you won't be allowed at school and they will infest your head SO badly that they will literally be falling off. The VERY BEST way to get rid of lice is with TEA TREE OIL, a medicine dropper and a LICE MEISTER comb. The comb is a little pricey, but it's the only one that works so it's worth it. DO NOT use Rid or Nix. Those shampoos don't work on lice any more. They have built up an immunity to the stuff and you will only poison yourself. So here's what you do... Take a shower, towel dry your hair and brush all of the knots out. Take some of the tea tree oil into the medicine dropper and squeeze it onto the comb at the top of the teeth. Pull it through your hair (small sections at a time) at a 45° angle. Try to keep the combed hair separate from the uncombed hair. Run some hot water in your sink and after each pull, run your fingernail across the comb teeth under the hot water. Reapply oil to the comb after each rinse. You might want to do your whole head a couple times to be sure you got them all, especially the nits (eggs) since they lay a lot and quickly. Repeat in two days to be on the safe side and then once a week. Throw your bedding, hats, scarves, jackets/coats and stuffed animals into the dryer on high heat for at least 20 minutes. If you have larger items that won't fit in the dryer, seal them in a plastic bag and leave them there for about a week. It doesn't usually take that long for them to die off of your head, but it's safest. Vacuum your whole house, your bed, your couches, every rug, etc. Soak your hairbrushes/combs in hot water with some rubbing alcohol for about an hour and rinse thouroughly under hot water. In your next shower, add two or three drops of the tea tree oil to the shampoo in your hand before you put it on your head. It will help deter any more lice from your head, stop the itching and heal any scratches/cuts you might have from scratching at the lice. This is why you should use tea tree oil instead of anything else... it traps the lice on the comb, it loosens the nits from your hair making it easy to comb them out and it HEALS your scalp so you won't get an infection in the scratches. Also, they don't like the taste of it so they won't make a home on your head. It's all natural - no poisons for them to become immune to, no poisons to make you sick. It's also great to use on small cuts and scratches anywhere you've got them. Good luck and God bless :o)

No, it won't kill them. And DON'T use anything BUT special lice shampoo that can kill both the lice, and the knits (eggs.) You'll need to bag up any stuffed animals, and wash carpets, vacuum the house regularly, and change and clean all your sheets and towels. If you live with other people, suggest they get checked and use the shampoo along with you. Also, killing them isn't enough. You'll need someone to sit over your head and PICK out the dead lice and knits. They do have special combs with the teeth close together which pull out the lice when brushed. Don't go to anyone's house, don't share ANY clothing or hats, and if someone borrowed from you, or you borrowed from them recently, tell them so they can be checked, too, and can wash the garment. If you have any pets, don't worry about them. Lice can only live on a humans head, but can linger on fibres like rugs and in bed linens.

You need to get a shampoo for head lice. Be assured that it has nothing to do with your cleanliness, lice happens.

There is a product call RID (I think) that works very well. You have to follow the instruction very carefully. There is a little comb in the kit, you need to have someone go through your hair with it to remove the nits.

Don't be scared...but do get your parent(s) to help you and get the correct shampoo. There are many on the market, if they get it from a pharmacy, they can ask the pharmacist for suggestions and how to use it

Madison, go to your school nurse and tell her you are nervous and think you may have lice. She can check your hair and tell you one way or the other. She will tell you what kind of shampoo to get and then what to do about cleaning your house. You can not get rid of lice by just taking a bath you need a special shampoo. You may just have dry scalp that is why your head itches. Definitely talk to your school nurse tomorrow and ease your worries.

ok calm down. no you can not drown them. you need to tell your parents if you havent already. then you need to go get a shampoo called 'RID'. and the lice comb. its a special comb used to comb out head lice. then wash everything you put your head on. if you have thing that can not be washed put them in a sealed plastic bag for 2-4 weeks. dont go to school until they are completely gone. you can get the shampoo at any pharmacy. no nothing can happen to you except that they can spread to other parts of your body (i.e. eyebrows) they are very contagious and can spread from person to person, by direct contact.
hope this helps you out. please again if you havent told your parents please do so. its nothing to be embarrassed about, every body has or will have head lice sometime in their life.

Dont be scared. Lice....sucks! but you can get rid of it!! STOP washing your hair. While you might get rid of a few by washing, they like clean hair better...and grow better in clean hair so dont wash your hair anymore. Adult lice and younger lice are much easier to get rid of, but the eggs are much harder. Try putting olive oil, or mayo in your hair. Dont put dangerous chemicals on your hair and make sure if you are mixing two substances, that they do not cause harmful chemicals. Dont use gasolene!! (some people do) or bleach or anything like that! Look up on google "lice remedies" you'll find stuff

good luck

Tell your mom and then tell her to go to CVS or Walgreens or something and buy you a shampoo designed to get rid of the lice. And you have to be very careful so that you dont spread it around in school so no sharing hats or anything and wash and change your covers often.
