My mom did this and she could never explain why since she wasn't fat before and looked scrawny in her wedding photos. She met my Dad when she was at the heavier weight. A lot of women do this. I mean, if he falls in love with you at that size, why should you be embarrassed to walk down the aisle at that size? I don't really get it

It can be very stressful planning a wedding, even a small one, and when people are under stress often they will not want to eat. I stopped drinking any alcohol for around 6 months before the wedding, not because I wanted to lose weight but I simply wanted to stop drinking, I lost a bit of weight from that as well. I'm already pretty small, I wear a UK size 6 so didn't need to lose anything at all, and I never tried to lose any either.

Do you mean your mom lost weight on purpose? Most brides I know lose weight just from running around and from the stress.

You definitely want to look the best you can on your wedding day, but that doesn't mean you can't look your best at a size 12 (like I was)!! Beautiful brides come in all shapes and sizes!

I had lost some weight just from being busy, but I wasn't trying. I would love to lose weight to be healthier, NOT to be a size 0!

Society does not see big as beautiful and a bride wants to be beautiful on her wedding day. She will have those photos forever and imagine pulling them out at a later date and not liking what you see on the happiest day of your life.
Plus the camera puts on 10kg, have to at least get that off to look normal.

However there comes a stage where people should not lost more weight for their health. If your mum was skinny to begin with but wanted to lose weight is should only have been within the healthy weight range.
I don't know how old she is, but my mum is in her 50's and is very self conscious of her menopausal 'spread'. I think for people this age it is the fact that they may have been skinny all their lives and through no fault of their own the have that little bit extra. To me that would be very frustrating, I would definitely want to lose it.

Its all about self perception. She wasn't in love with herself that size and probably saw herself in a negative light while thinking of walking down the aisle at that weight. Your father, because no man does, doesn't even realized that she is "fat" (also because she probably wasn't) so he loved her just for her and not because she was loosing weight or gaining or whatever. But your mom doesn't see this or does and still wants to be thinner for her own self.

Because most people want to look good in their wedding photos and most Americans (statistically) can stand to lose some weight-- as the average size for an American woman is a 12.

Being a size 12 myself, if I were getting married, I'd feel MUCH better about how I look if my dress fit me better and my arms weren't wiggly and my butt didn't look big. Your husband should always love you, but YOU need to feel good about yourself as well.

I think that many women do because they want to look better on their special day.

For me, I worked for over a year before my wedding to loose weight under my doctors advice. My husband and I knew that we wanted to start trying for a baby right away, and being obese, my doctor wanted me down to a certain weight to avoid complications. I did however, stop my low fat diet three weeks before the wedding, and went up about 5lbs, so that I would be able to eat on my honeymoon without fear of being sick.

part of it is pressure from the wedding industry. Some women lose weight because the plus size dresses can be pretty ugly design wise. Some because they are brainwashed that their pics have to show this fairytale magazine couple which means everybody needs to be in model form.

women also loose weight simply because of the stress involved with a wedding. stress can affect your appetite and sometimes (at least with me) you just go SO busy you don't have time or plain forget to eat.

For me, I'm not going to starve myself to get skinny for it, but I have been trying to lose a few pounds, but I have gained too much weight since I've moved a less active job. Anyway, I know my fiance loves me and finds me attractive the way I am, but I want to be confident enough to be naked in front of him on our wedding night and not be self-conscious. To do that, I need to feel good about myself, and right now, I don't.

well weddings are usually intended for the guests and many guests will ridicule the wedding therefore brides obsess with everything having to be perfect it shouldnt be like that but thats the way things are usually the bride is not trying to please the groom but the guests so that everyine could say it was perfect
