The closest major airport is probably Las Vegas, NV, but there should be a smaller one in Barstow or Daggat, CA. The one in Barstow is 30 miles from Ft. Irwin and Barstow-Daggat airport is 31 miles away.

It depends a lot on which airport you're travelling to Fort Irwin from. Some (very few) airports do not have service to Las Vegas, but all of the larger ones, such as Atlanta and Dallas, do. I'd say that Las Vegas is the closest major airport, but there may be a smaller one that only a few airlines have service to, or it may be a seasonal one that only operates in the summer or winter.

The closest airport is McCarran Airport in Southern Nevada. On the California side of the border the nearest one is Ontario Airport in Ontario, California.

The closest large airport where you can get many flights out of would be Las Vegas or Los Angeles. 3 hrs to either.
