I am bringing home a jack russell terrier that i adopted from the Animal shelter tomorrow, she's three years old and very timid right now since she was abused.
should i be worried about my bird, guinea pig, reptiles and chinchilla? i know their hunting dogs so im guessing i should just keep them separate right?

Yes, keep them separated until you know how the new dog is going to react. They are natural hunters. You may want to consider talking to a trainer about it and get some pointers to retrain her not to go after your other pets.

Thank you for saving a life!

Yes Yes Yes!!! Congrats with the new girl BTW, but be warned Jack's are Terriers through and through. Terrier as they same root word as terrorize and with good reason. The were bred to hunt rats and other pest and will kill all kinds of smalll fluffy things. This is deeply ingrained in them due to years of breading as a working dog. I would never leave the dog alone with any of your other pets. I know a Russel mix of a friend who killed a cat he lived with for 4 years!!! Give her lots and lots of exercise, this is one of the most active breed out there. You can slowly let the dog be around the other pets when you are totally in control and she is on leash, but when you leave the room all bets are off. It is just in her blood, and not a mean breed. Her breed was made with a job in mind and she can't be expected to learn different. Some Jacks do fine with bunnies, rats, cats, and smaller dogs, but I would never "trust" her with them. It is not a matter of training or being a good dog, just the past role this breed had.

Could be a disaster! I guess you will find out soon enough. Just make sure the others are safe and out of reach until this dog is well adjusted to the new surroundings. What did the shelter say? Did you tell them you have all these other animals?

i wouldn't worry too much about the other animals..just be careful bringing her home..shes going to be very scared of you and every move of your hands, body, sound of your voice..no matter what you do for a while she will most likely be scared of you..i would suggest training classes for the both of you, to help with bonding plus a trainer will beable to help with a timid dog and training them the correct way..plus being an adopted dog, most places give discounts for adopting a dog..let her be curious of the other animals, it will be ok..don't keep her away from them or overreact about her being near to them, cuz that will just add to her anxiety..just keep an eye on her and see what she does..good luck, and God bless you for taking on a challenge, it will be hard at first but with some good training it won't be so bad!

find out as much as you can from the shelter, where they got her from, if they know she was with a family that had other pets, and how they got along. Lots of people who can't keep their pets will take them to a shelter, and leave lots of helpful info like that.

I don't know that the dog would know what to do with them I would eventually but slowly introduce them.

Definitely keep them separated, and never ever leave them alone together unsupervised for one second!
