My five year old male cat had sx 24 hrs ago to remove crystals from a full bladder. His prognosis was great-no iv's needed and blood work good. Had catheter removed and urinated at vets office a couple times and ate. Took him home last night around seven and cat urinated seven times since eight this morning (good hardy clumps too). It's now almost twelve hours later, and he only urniated once and it wasn't that big (but didn't look like just a little "drip". Gave him his antibotics as well as an anti-inflammatory for his genitals. Vet said it's extremely important to watch the next five days b/c he's prone to block again quickly. Please let me know if he's just sore or if he could be blocking again. His temper seems normal and he's eating his special diet food. However, he hasn't had a bowel movement for a couple days.

He is just sore and probably scared to go the bathroom because of the previous pain. He will not start going again normally until a few days. My cat had the same thing and he was on kitty valium and it kind of helped....but he still had to heal. I was terrified he was going to reblock because he even had a little blood in the urine but he was fine. Still continue to watch closely but I wouldnt worry for a few more days. I know this is a really hard time for you! I had the worst time going to work worrying about mine. Try not to worry too much! Im sure he will be okay.

The dry food is not why he got crystals....Certain types of cat food has the acid that causes them. My cat will only eat dry food so now I have to buy the urinary tract food. It is still dry though. You were not being negligent in your care of the cat and Im sure the VET has told you what you should be feeding him.

One or 2 times a day is normal but I want to address why your cat got crystals and what you should do to prevent it from happening again
You were feeding dry food before, correct??
Now you are feeding prescription dry food, Correct?
The problem and why the crystal;s developed, because of dry food and not enough water moving through the system.
Please read the links I provide and stop feeding kitty crack

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard, dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods.
The problems with it are that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Most of the moisture a cat needs is gotten
out of the food and 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Also, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Please read about cat nutrition.

Re: urination

The best piece of advice would be to call your vet and ask. He knows best. That is what he is there for. There is nothing wrong with calling and asking a question like that if you are concerned. The worst thing you can do is wait to see if the problem gets better when there might be something wrong.

See the vet and have the cat checked. by no skill a bad thought. for the reason that he has long previous, it can not be important or it can not be an emergency yet i might nevertheless have him checked. i think of i may be extra frightened via an strengthen of urine, which has a tendency to perceive kidney failure. yet particular take kitty in and have him checked.
