I want to download an MPEG File onto my computer. It is an audio file of a lecture. I have Itunes, Quick Time, and MusicMatch; the typical Windows XP programs.
When I click on the link it either freezes and doesn't respond or it says that there is a problem with a plug in. How can I download this audio file?

If you can, right click on the link, then select "save link as" - this should let you download the file. Once downloaded, Try each of the media players on your PC, including Windows Media Player, to open and playback the file. Unless the file's corrupted, or if the link is corrupt, this should work. If there's a problem downloading the file, the it's corrupt on the server and there's not much you can do right now - it would have to be replaced by a good cop by the server admin.

The problem sounds like to me that you may not be sure which Mpeg Format the lecture file was made with.
As you have probably already figured out there is much more to Mpeg Formats than most users are aware of.

It may very well be that, depending on the Software that was used to begin with.
It may very well be that you may have to Rip it and re burn it to get it to work at all. If this Player doesn't work.

Could be a corrupt file or bad link.
Right click the link, save target as, save to folder on your computer, then play.
Save as type will also tell you what type of file, you are trying to download from the link. Then you can load the proper plug in, to stream video.
