The size in mind is about three and nine-sixteenths inches by two and seven-sixteenths inches. If not, are there any tricks I can use like putting a mirror on top of it, scanning it as a photo, and taking a negative of the negative?

Even the most basic or obvious suggestions are welcome.

The easiest/best way to digitize it is to have a print made of the negative and scan that.

If you really want to scan negatives, to do the job right, you will need a film scanner that has a holder for the negative. To do the job in the cheapest possible way, you need a flatbed scanner with a transparency adapter that can hold the media in question.

I have an HP scanjet 3970, I can scan the the old skinny negs and the negs that are the same size as slides, the insert is specific as to what it will hold. My scanner is a few years old.
