Not ALL hamsters die if they get wet-tail.
However, it is a very serious/deadly disease.
If you take the sick hamster to the vet in time, there is a great chance that you can safe its life. Also, you can try buying DRI-TAIL and applying it to its water. They sell this product at almost any pet store.
I do recommend that you take the hamster to the Vet ASAP, because its possible that it can die withing 24 hours.
If you own ANY pet, you should first be aware that it may at some point need a vet's help. So if you are unwilling to take a sick pet to the vet, then maybe you are financially not ready to have one.

No. Not all hamsters die of wet-tail. But mostly I'd say about 98% of them do. It is a very faital disease, and can be contageous to toher hamsters. So if you have any others please seperate them now. The only real anwer is to go to the vet. But since you can't then, go to PETCO or PetSmart or another pet store and see if they have Dri-Tail. Your suppose to put it in their water. But mostly when they have wet-tail they stop drinking and eating because they're too weak. So before it gets to that stage buy it immeadiately. It could possibly save your hamster. But without going to the vet, there's kind of no chance of it living. Even if you do go to the vet, the diagnoses won't be could. And it wouldn't be worth your money to help it any longer.. So follow these steps. But, I'm sorry. There's really no chance. If you see these signs:

Diarhea
Getting weaker everyday
Stops eating and Drinking
Gets Very Skinny
Isn't really active(Dpesn't move at all much)
Has a horrible smell
Tail is wet and bottom by tail is dirty(Diarhea, bedding, blah stuck to it)
Eyes start to close and is too weak to open them
Gives some squeaks (Faint,, yet loud enough to hear, kinda like how guinea pigs squeak)
Breathing goes faster, then slower and slower, and gasps for air
Then it will give all it's strength in one last breath and die

So, sadly that is what will happen to your hamster in order. I suggest don't play with your hamster when it shows these signs. It could cause more damage. Let it live in peace, and have a good rest of it's life.. That's all I can say. I hope this helps. Be strong..=]

Not all hamsters die from wet tail, but it has to be caught and treated early. Without treatment, she will die.

First thing's first, REMOVE ALL SEEDS. Seeds contain moisture and if she's eating those while she has wet tail, she will never get better. Feed only lab blocks, oats and carrots.

Second, wet-tail is usually caused by stress so you want to reduce stress as much as possible.

Pet stores sell something called Dri-tail. Get that (it's like $3-5) if you can't get antibiotics from the vet. It doesn't always work, but it's better than nothing. Don't mix it with the water, give it to her directly through the dropper (you can dilute it if she won't take it, but you'll need to give her more).

Good luck and I hope your hammy survives this ordeal.

Vets can treat it, its if your willing to pay their vets bills, personally I have spent more than £50's on my 2 current boy hamsters in vets bills.

try the medicine and petsmart dry tail. But it may not help, most do die yes. I had one that died almost immediately after showing symptoms.

I have no idea what that is. My hamsters have died from being sat on, the cat got it, and my last one had a brain tumor but picked it out and had a giant scab on its forhead

If you are going to have a hamster, please know they sooner or later will need vet care. PLEASE take your hamster to the vet or it will die.
