Do neighbors really come into each others apartments to talk and eat their neighbors food? Do friends really see each other on the streets all the time? Where's monks "Resturant" in NY where the gang eats? Where's that calzones place where george bought calzones for Mr. Steinbrenner? Oh! where does Jerry, Kramer, Elanie and George live in NY!!

It's more "tongue in cheek". You don't have a Kramer just barge right in and eat up your food! LOL. But even though NYC is a big place, it is "small" enough where you can bump into friends on the streets.

The restaurant that "Monk's Cafe" is actually "Tom's Restaurant" and is actually located at 2880 Broadway (corner of W. 112th Street - near Columbia University). The calzone place...I am not sure of. However, the "Soup Nazi" restaurant was located on W. 55th Street (and is now closed).

From the exterior shots, my guess is that the area they lived was somewhere in Greenwich Village.

A friend of mine is paying a little under $200 for an ugly 2 bedroom on the upper east side...I forget where since I left NYC about 18 years ago. She's had it for over 30 years, rent control.

On the other hand, in 1976 we were paying $581.86 a month for an apartment in the West Village. It was a great apartment, but I was making $2.35 an hour at an answering service. My husband was making $150 a week as the lighting designer at a little black box theatre. Macaroni and Cheese and Powdered Milk were our best friends.

Larry David, co-producer with Jerry Seinfeld, lived on the upper West Side and had a neighbor as zany as Kramer. Also at one time Seinfeld also lived on the upper West Side. As far as the pizzeria, there are many near Yankee Stadium. Artists in the East Village and Alphabet City often never locked their doors. They did that just in case a friend in need dropped by at an unsuspecting hour for a place to sleep.

Like everyone else said, it's not a real show, but it would be possible to run into friends on the street.

Jerry's apartment in the show was on the Upper West Side. An apartment like his would cost about $4,000 a month to rent--way more than those characters could afford, thus some parts are unrealistic.

In fantasy land. An apartment like they show costs more than they could afford. And they don't even lock the door! That's not the NYC I know and love.
