OS X has a built in firewall; if someone's configured it to limit what can be done, you'll need to talk to whoever configured the Mac firewall. If it's operating on defaults, though, it shouldn't be interfering with normal web browsing. Can you add to your question to give some more detail?

the issue isn't your mac... it's the router you're connected to. reset it and try again.
