For the women - is this insulting to you?

A discussion at work today led to me making a comment that it isn't right to hit a woman during an argument. I said that if an argument escalates to that point and a man can't control himself, he needs to walk away.

Everyone got *very* angry with me and said that my way of thinking is sexist, I was completely shocked to hear that! I was told that by saying that a man shouldn't hit a woman, that's like saying that a woman isn't capable of taking care of herself in a fight, which isn't what I was trying to suggest AT ALL!

So that's my question for you. Is it sexist to believe that violence against women is wrong?

You're 100% correct! No matter how independent a woman may be, a man should never, ever raise his hand to her in violence. Also, these particular women probably don't even realize that physical aggression or their abilities have absolutely nothing to do with how independent they may be or wish that they were. That said, it's bad form to hit anyone, save light hearted teasing, regardless of their sex.

I fully agree with you, under no circumstance should a man hit a woman. During a fight or not during a fight. Men are stronger than women and can hurt them when not really meaning to.

But on the other side, a woman shouldn't hit a man in the same case. I don't think what you said was sexist at all.
I proudly taught my son the same thing, you never hit a woman.

Of course it isn't sexist!! I for one believe that violence against women is wrong. Violence in any sense is wrong, why not be civilize and talk things out?? Women generally speaking are physically weaker than men, so when a man gets violent with a woman, he usually wins bc of that. That makes the fight unfair.

Maybe ur collegues are just messing with you and made the situation ironic just to mess with ur mind. dont worry, i dont think what u said was sexist at all

Yes, violence against women is wrong... but so is violence against anyone. You should never be the first to throw a punch, whether your opponent is male or female.

Your coworkers were probably in the mode of assuming the fight must take place, and read your tone to mean that women aren't worth fighting, that a man would have an unfair advantage. They were overlooking the inherent injustice of fighting at all.

You were right, but there was a larger point that both parties were ignoring.

i dont think so???at all ... the women that got insulted should be ashamed...i believe if a women or a man get to the point of start in any form of violence should walk away and take a walk or something to get their heads together and to calm down.. but try to keep in mind everyone always has something to say and have different believes ........

I totally agree with you. If an argument does escalate to that point & the guy CANNOT control himself, he does need to walk away..Only then he is a REAL man.

IMO, violence is not the best way to solve problems, between people, male or female. That being said, sometimes after all other options have been exhausted it is right to defend freedom by whatever means are necessary.

No one has a rite to hit anyone!!!!! But a man that'll hit a woman, won't fight a man, because he's afraid of getting hit back!!! My 3 daughters have have black belts, let a gut try'n hit em, they'll get the ashes kicked!!

i believe that violence does not solve anything and a man is not really a man if he has to hit a woman to make a point.
