I could understand the difficulty if you said "How do you pray to a god you don't believe in to help you believe." If you don't believe in God, it wouldn't make any sense to pray to him for anything. But if you merely aren't sure you believe in God, then you at least have some inclination to think there might be one. So there's nothing strange about praying to this God and asking him to show you that he exists.

If you really want to know, pray with an honest heart. It can't hurt to try if you don't know. Just get on your knees, take in a couple deep breaths to clear your mind, then let your thoughts come out. When I am seeking the answer for something, I always pray that I will be able to see the answer, and understand it. Because sometimes we pray for things and the answer is there, but we are not of the right mind to realize it.

We are told to weary the Lord until He grants us what we want. Just fervently pray to Him, asking Him to help you believe in Him. Read the Bible, then pray, that will help. Fasting is another way that can really help you get the answer to your prayers. I know, I have done it. You just have to keep at it until you get an answer. And it most likely will not be a big ol' sign from Heaven either. It will be in your heart, through the Spirit.
you can email me if you want to. I mean, we talked for 4 hours once, I think we can do it again ;)

Well first of all if you are praying but don't believe that God is real then your prayers aren't being herd. First of all there is proof that God is real because without him you wouldn't be hear today. So next time when you pray belief that you are praying to a God that actually exists and loves you so much. Okay, I promise that it will work this time.

Just be sincere. It says that God doesnt look at the outward appearance but at the heart. That means He cuts through all the shtuff and He instantly sees your intentions. So He will honor that I'm sure.
Jesus looked at the heart then and He still does-
John 2:23-25
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did. 24 But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, 25 and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for HE KNEW WHAT WAS IN MAN.
Matthew 9:4
But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?
Luke 11:17
But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls.
So yea, He knows your thoughts and knows what you need. Just pray that He would give you a way to believe Him. God gives signs all the time. If you need a sign, he'll give you one, the thing is don't put a time constraint on it, trust it till it happens. I promise it will if you ask for it.

That would qualify as an oxymoronic situation. If you do not believe, how can you ask? You would have to believe in the concept OF the god you are asking for you to perceive any help therefrom. If you ARE praying, then you believe on some level, however minimally or subconsciously. Belief in a god-concept is a conscious decision made for reasons known only to the believer, and provable to no one.

Okay - so you know that I don't think God is a "him" - so let's move past that.
Prayer. What is it? Prayer is using your brain to KNOW that Love (God) is there for you to use to achieve whatever you want. It's really not so hard to believe in Love - is it? The athiests tell me that Love cannot be God - because Love is just a chemical reaction in the brain.
BUT - I believe that God is the Power of Love. Prayer is knowing that the Love is there for you to use - and setting your mind straight to use It. By praying you don't really ask God for anything - you just USE God. Who you ask - is yourself.
So - ask yourself to believe in the Love - and you will. It's all a matter of what you really want.
Hope that makes sense!!
Namaste!

You said you arent sure you believe...have you accepted Him as Lord and Savior of your life Linz? That is the first step....and then you can begin to ask Him to help your unbelief. Unbelief is a common thing amongst people who believe IN God. The difference between christians and non-believers is that a christian takes the first step (on faith) and God is there to hold your hand..to guide you..to help strengthen your belief in Him. The unbeliever is afraid to take even that first step.

Your question is similar to Luke 17:5-6.
On this occasion, the Apostles came upon Christ and asked him: "How do we increase our faith in you?" (Bear in mind, the Apostles could actually witness Christ in the flesh, which is an advantage that none of us in this generation shares, so their question was especially egregious).
Christ responded with this:
'If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you."
This is widely thought to mean: Were you to just work with the faith you presently have, you could still accomplish even that which you presently think is impossible.
It redirects the question. The broader point Christ is making is this: the faith you have already been given is sufficient for what God requires. Work with what you already have, and you will be fine, I promise.
