I think if you can't afford to take you're dog to the vet you should find a new home for it.

That many fleas can make a dog ill, when a dog is ill he loses energy and becomes droopy. See how that works. Your dog is sick from all the fleas. The vet will give your dog a potent medication that will kill all the fleas in seconds. I know you said no vet... however there is nothing you can do. Most of the medications available are preventative or cure a small problem. This will only get worse. Fleas can actually kill a dog. They cause skin infections and your dog could even be allergic to them. Here's a link:

If you really dont have the money to go to the vet, ask them for a payment plan or call a vet willing to help. Otherwise call the spca for help.

Natural remedies are cheap, but still a waste of money because they don't work, I'm afraid.

I am going to tell you to take your dog to the vet, because that is the ONLY way to find out what's wrong - no one can possibly diagnose over the internet - not even a vet when the symptoms is described as 'droopy'! I mean, this is just a general sign of illness

Go to a vets, at least to pick up some proper flea treatment. Frontline, Advantage and Revolution all work. If your dog stops eating or has any symptoms like vomiting or diarrhoea, you will have no choice but to go to a vet.

Fleas suck the blood out of a dog causing anemia - look at your dogs gums, are they bright pink or pale or almost white? If they aren't bright pink, your dog is in serious trouble, possibly from the heavy infestation of fleas, and needs to go to a VET immediately.

In a loose area of skin, like around the neck or on the rear lightly pinch up a bit of skin, watch what it does - does it pop right back into place or does it go down slowly? If it goes down slowly your dog is dehydrated and could be on it's way to death if you don't take it to a VET.

Fleas are most likely the main reason the dog isn't acting right - it really isn't feeling well! Please spray your entire house/yard with a flea killer because unless you do that your dog will get re-infested with fleas no matter what treatment you use. I'm sure if your dog has lots of fleas you have been finding them on yourself as well, which is gross and a health hazard. If your dog lives outside and you don't have any fleas in the house and you aren't going to get it to a vet you need to call animal control to come get your dog or take it to a shelter because you are being very VERY cruel.

PLEASE TAKE THE DOG TO A VET!!! Please at least call a vet and ask some questions and tell them your situation, vets are sometimes willing to work with people.

If your dog seems lethargic, it may possibly be from flea infestation or the heat. Monitor how he is eating. That is often times a major clue as to if the dog is ill or not.

I have a certified service dog that accompanies me everywhere, so I must take really good care of her. I use Frontline once a month for flea, tick and other kinds of bug control. There is another product called Advantage that helps also.

Flea and tick collars are absolutely useless, as are the dips and shampoos. The products I told you are the ones used by professionals, and they work. You may have to get them at a vet's office, or possibly a granary if you live in an area with farms and ranches.

I did a google search for Frontline and numerous places came up to purchase online.

My dog gets bathed once a month on the 1st, and also a heartworm medication that same day. Two days after the bath I use the Frontline by just massaging it into her skin at the back of her shoulders.

Make sure its bedding is cleaned also, or it can easily get reinfected.

Best wishes!

Fleas can carry many different viruses that your dog could have contracted. The only way to tell is to go to the vet. If you can't afford the vet, ask around. Some may be able to do a payment plan. Otherwise, find a new home for the dog. You have to be able to take care of a dog financially in order to be able to have a dog. If you can't afford vet bills and proper care for a dog, then you're better off saving the dog food money, and putting it towards something else.

I don't know anything natural that kills fleas. I never tried anything natural. I've also, never let fleas get that bad on my dogs. Try a capstar from the vet. Frontline or Revolution.

You need to use front line or another one of the products that you can get - at the vet. The fleas will stop and ultimately just go away. Forget about natural. It's a waste of time for this problem.

Your dog may be suffering from all those fleas. But if your dog is sick, the only responsible thing you can do is take it to the vet.

The flea infestation may be the cause of the animal's "droopy" demeanor. How energetic would you be if you were being annoyingly gnawed upon in many spots all day long? Picture yourself with whole-body poison ivy, then you get why the dog isn't perky. Also, fleas cause blood loss. Check the gums, are they pale? As for "natural" products to kill the fleas? Please, buy a good flea shampoo and THOROUGHLY bathe your dog with it. Then, after the bath, use the appropriate Frontline Plus for your animal's weight range. Vets will often sell individual packs at the cost if you bought multiples from the pet store, for their patient's sakes. I swear by the stuff, my one Rotty is allergic to their bites. Now, if the dog is indoor variety, you need to vacuum daily, well, then spread salt on the carpeting overnight, until you vacuum it again, for a week. Do this faithfully for a week, and DIY says it works. Haven't used that one, have used Frontline.

Has to be the Vet.

If you wanna treat yourself in your own life with natural remedies and avoid all trained medical personnell then that is your decision (to be honest there are a few areas in my life that i am starting to ignore the doctors as i feel they do not know best).

When it comes to your dog however - you cannot be ignorant enough to not get it checked out by a professional. If you 'seem droopy' you may know why. You do not know what is wrong with your dog so do the responsible thing and find out. While you're there they'll sort you out some Frontline spot on for the fleas - but if you were using this every two months as you should, he would not be as flea ridden as you suggest.

Doggy needs to see the vet. Has he/she been vaccinated? Is she pregnant? How long since she's been dewormed?

The vet has a product, but you can't use it until they run a blood test. It is called revolution. One little dose of that med on the back of doggy's neck, and she'll be flea-free for a month. You've got to get rid of the fleas in the yard. If doggy has vet med, it won't matter because every flea that bites will die. But if you're not going to take the dog to the vet, you have to bathe the dog in flea shampoo and spray insecticide all over your yard and probably your neighbors' too.

Just take the dog to the vet.

To answer your first question, your dog is obviously sick because lethargy is a common symptom of many illnesses. It may also be his diet so try using a better quality dog food such as Candiae. To answer your second question, fleas are very hard to get rid of. You need to get Frontline from your vet or local pet store (do not use any product by Hartz/Zodiac because these are linked to hundreds of animal's deaths due to the harsh chemicals). You could try using a little bit of Dawn dishsoap to bath the dog or a flea shampoo from the pet store. Also, vaccum your house really well and wash all of your bedding because fleas love to stay in those areas. It wouldn't hurt to call a pesticide company to spray your house. You obviously have a problem with vets, but your first dog needs to see one because it is sick. It's your responsibility to get the dog seen by a vet when it is sick- if you cannot afford the vet, you do not need a dog.
