My 10 year old neutered male cat won't stop peeing around the house!! He doens't go in his litterbox (which is cleaned daily) but he'll go poop in it.We also have 1 dog who he's never had a problem with.(no other pets)
Here's a list of the things we've tried to get him to stop:
-double sided tape
-baking soda/viniger were he pees
-tin foil
-putting something in the way of where he wants to pee (someitmes works)
-it's not the kitty litter or box. he started this habit about a year ago and we've had him for 10 years and he's never had a problem with it.
Health::
-We've had him tested at the vets for leukimia, crystals, and other respitory diseases. The numerous tests all came out negative
-he's an indoor cat!
PLEASE HELP! My mom says we have to put him down if he doesn't stop!!!also none of those nature's miracle sprays or anything work!

WE DON"T WANT TO PUT HIM DOWN! our house is starting to smell though! And if he goes to an animal shelter he'll most likely be put down for his peeing problem!

Yes he has about 3-4 favorite spots to pee in.His litterbox is not covered, the litter is not scented, and its downstairs in the laundry room.moving his box isn't an option cause there's nowhere's to move it.

Tell your mom that she's disgusting for valuing walls and floors over a life.

I had a cat that did this. Try adding a second litter box-- some cats just need 2 boxes. Also make them bigger boxes- you may need to switch to a storage tote like those clear ones. Cats like big boxes. If all of this doesn't help then try adding some outdoor soil into the litter mixture. Cats prefer the outdoors and prefer to go to the bathroom outdoors--it's in their nature. Gradually decrease the soil amount each time you change the box until the cat is using the litter again. The commercial cleaners do not work on pet stains if they contain any amount of ammonia. A cat's urine contains ammonia so some cleaners actually attract the cat more. Sorry but you may have to remove the carpet all together, including any carpet padding and scrub the subfloor with a bleach. Just cleaning the carpet doesn't work because the scent makes its way into the carpet pad. It's expensive but hardwood floors is also an option. I had to switch to hardwood the whole way through my house. Make sure to change the catbox frequently! You may also want to have your vet check the cat for a urinary tract infection. This may be the root of your problem. Have you changed his diet lately since this can also cause changes in him? Good luck--I hope this helps!

There's a difference between PEEING and SPRAYING. If he's going against the side of the walls, that's a male spraying his territory. If he squats down and does it on the floor, that's peeing.
Outdoor cats that spray or yowl can sometimes get an indoor cat to do it too, thinking they have to protect their territory. Even if they're neutered, they can still spray.
You can eliminate the spraying and around the house peeing by putting a stud pants on him. Breeders use this on their male stud cats so they won't pee on the walls and furniture when they're out of their cages. A cat can't poop with one on, but it sure stops any pee and spray.
I'll put some URL's about it below. There's sites that tell you how to sew your own, and you use a regular feminine sanitary napkin in them, they're very easy to use. He may not LIKE wearing them, but if it's a choice between wearing it and euthenasia, take the stud pants!

There are websites that sell cat diapers/underpants for show cats and stuff so people can have the intact cats in their homes without having everything covered in pee - this could very well be a good solution!
It's horrifying that someone would put a cat with more than half it's life yet to live to death just because it's messing the house. You didn't say if the cat is dewclawed... or if you had it checked for a bladder infection, although that's probably been done

I am having the same problem with my dog.
He goes outside and don't go to the bathroom, then comes in and pees.
My mom said though that we would have to sell him if he don't stop.
If you haven't had the dog for a long time, maybe he's just marking his territory.
You could get pee pads and put them all out around the house where he normal pees and see if that works for your mom.
And about the cleaning stuff try fantastic and Pinsol!
Or you could get a bunch of little litter boxes ans spread them out all over the place so that he will go and pee in those.
Hope ypu don't have to put your cat down.... praying 4 you.....

Is he peeing in a secret place? If he pees behind something, where no one can see, then I would get him a privacy box (the ones with a lid).
I don't know about most people, but my cats insist on having two boxes. You've got the privacy box they pee in, and the open box they poop in. I have no idea why they feel the need to poop when everyone can see.... Must be part of their grand master plan to take over the world....

You say he is 10 years old. This might be a shot in the dark, but could going up and down the stairs take too much effort as he gets older? He might poop in the litter box, but they pee more often and maybe he is thinking the steps are too much of a bother. Can you leave him in the basement or does he pee outside the litter box down there or is it only upstairs?
All else fails, can you leave him in your room? Don't let your mom put your cat down. Tell her you will be traumatized and she will have to pay for therapy and consoling for the loss of your cat!

Get rid of the mom when she gets old and can't hold it. Just kidding. Call your vet or shelter or humane society and ask them for ideas. If they don't work then find another home for the cat before your mom does something terrible. There is some behavior training but I don't know what it is. Is has not been declawed recently? Or got in a fight with someone in the house? Good luck.

I had a cat who did the same thing and she was only 2 years old. We first sifted her litter box frequently everyday because she was very finicky about what and how much litter was in it. Then we tried putting her litter box where she used the restroom (because she only had one certain spot). If neither works, try consulting the vet. And seriously, your mom needs to chill out. What does she expect you to do when she gets old and pees everywhere? Put her down too!

Place your cat in a bathroom (or other small room) with the litter box and leave him in there. Feed him there, keep water in there for him, play with him there, and add a comfy place to sleep. This will retrain him to use the litter box. After two months, let him out, keeping a close eye on him. If he pees inappropriately again, put him back in the small room. This is not to punish him, but to retrain him. Leave him there for another two months. This method works well, as I have used it for the same problem with one of my cats.
Also, go to XOspray.com and get the X-O Odor Out Plus. It works!!
Best to you.

I dont like your mom. lol
Okay so figure out where he pees. chances are its the same place or object. Ive had to put all my shoes in a closet before. Also, make sure your kitty poo box doesnt have a lid, use unscented kitty litter, keep your box outside of a high traffic area, have more then one litter box (put one in every area he's peed). Dont use amonia to clean the area it smells like pee to cats. Try sprinkling catnip all over the areas he pees in. Here's a link full of what other people have done:

Good luck!
