It means they've traced the American indians (secondary race) back to the race from which they evolved the asians (primary race).

I think the list is a linguistic classification more than a racial one and the primary and secondary race are being used here as broad group markers.
From "Ensemble" down, he's speaking of linguistic/cultural groups.
from Wiki: "The Dené-Caucasian (also called Sino-Caucasian or Dené-Sino-Caucasian) language family is a proposed language superfamily containing at least the Basque, Caucasian, Yeniseian, Burushaski, Sino-Tibetan, and Na-Dené languages."
from Lapahie: "The Na-Dené Ensemble included 4 major Groups: the Eyak, the Haida, the Tlingit, and the Athabascan (or Athapaskan)."

1] the primary race is the 'root' race, which the second is a division of.
2] the secondary race is a category/division of the primary race.
Example: you are German [ primary], and ancestors are from Bavarian [ secondary ] area of Germany. Bad analogy, best I could think of on short notice. they are like bloodlines for horses, or pedigrees for dogs.
Or, a] the H.S. Asiaticus [ primary, or main race ] produced several classes,
including the b] American Indian, which produced several classes, including
c] Na-Dene', which produced several etc., incl.
d] Athabascan-Eyak, and so on to the
j] Navaho [ Dine' ] tribe.

Primary is the main source on where your ancestry came from. The American Indian's origin is from Asia, the Mongol. Your first ancestry came to the New World way back thousand years ago and migrated to the New World. Later they became the America Indian which is your secondary ancestry.
