He is promoting ecumenicism. What is the great commission people? To kiss each other and say go get warm and be filled? Or is it to preach the gospel so that people can be saved? The gospel is an offense for the perishing but that is not our concern. These souls hearing the gospel and God saving them is our concern. NOT if we are getting along?!! NO COMPROMISE!!!!

To the 1st poster. . . I communicate Latin very properly and am in common terms a Catholic Convert - pass determine. As for Latin being a "revived" language, i think of it may be great, no could translate the Vatican records into countless languages, a extra useful expertise of language generally (many have Latin roots). i understand countless (4 or 5) priests which could communicate Latin very properly and extra than a number of alternative non secular Brothers and Sisters who do much extra useful.

Not knowing the incident to which you are referring, there's nothing wrong with a little Latin, as long as everyone eventually gets the point. Latin is part of Western history and is used in the scientific, medical and legal professions. Knowing some of the classic idoms enriches life and can even keep you in the communication loop.
You have an interesting take on the letter of James. No, we cannot mouth platitudes to people in need, but if their needs are physical, preaching the "Good News" at them is hypocritical. We have to demonstrate it with real care first.
Regarding the gospel as a weapon is a truly bizarre POV. Christians are commanded to love their enemies, not beat them over the head with what's "good for them", not treating them as targets. "Do good to them," Jesus said, not "Do unto them for their own good even if it hurts."
Ecumenism may be doomed. Everybody wants the other side to convert to their brand of truth. But if we never make any attempt to find common ground, Christianity is doomed to become billions of denominations of one.
I suggest you reaquaint yourself with what the "Good News" actually is. You can find it starting at Luke 4:18.

Who is the "he" that is promoting ecumenicism?
If you are referring to Pope Benedict, his job is to guide his flock. In the sense that catholic (little "c" not capital "C") means universal, then it is also his duty to unite all Christians.
Celebrating a mass in Latin does not make a person ecumenical. The mass was said in Latin when it was the language of the people. As the faith spread, it was translated into the vernacular of the particular area it spread to. The purpose of saying the mass in Latin nowadays is to get back to the original text of the mass.

If your not getting along you are not doing a very good job of living the teachings of the gospel, now are you? If you do not live the teachings of what your teaching how affective are you going to be at teaching them? Your own actions will call you a false profit!

I am not sure exactly what you are talking about but ...
"The Catholic Church embraces with hope the commitment to ecumenism as a duty of the Christian conscience enlightened by faith and guided by love…Jesus himself, at the hour of his Passion, prayed 'that they may all be one' (John 17:21)." -- Pope John Paul II, Ut Unum Sint, May 25, 1995.
The Catholic Church in the United States already has the following open dialogs with her sister Churches:
- The North American Orthodox-Catholic Theological Consultation
- The Joint Committee of Orthodox and Catholic Bishops
- The Oriental Orthodox-Roman Catholic Consultation
- The Polish National Catholic-Roman Catholic Dialogue
- The Anglican-Roman Catholic Consultation USA
- The Lutheran-Catholic Dialogue
- Roman Catholic-Reformed Consultation
- The United Methodist-Catholic Dialogue
- Southern Baptist Convention-Catholic Dialogue
- The Evangelical-Catholic Dialogue
- Faith and Order Commission, National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA
- Consultation with the National Council of Synagogues
- Consultation with the Orthodox Union and the Rabbinical Council of America
- Midwest Dialogue of Catholics and Muslims
- Mid-Atlantic Dialogue of Catholics and Muslims
- West Coast Dialogue of Catholics and Muslims
Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):
By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

What? Melt? This makes no sense.
I don't melt when anyone speaks Latin.
I never heard of kissing and telling people to go get warm and be filled.
Are you ok?
