Hi, American Express cancelled my account with them because of information found on my credit report, (delinquencies).

I ordered a copy of my credit report from all 3 bureaus, and I did not find any kind of delinquency on my report at all. All my accounts are being paid on time and I have no collections.

I called AMEX to find out what is going on and to tell them that there are no delinquency at all in my credit report and that I have always paid my Amex on time, and spoke with a rude representative and she told me that was nothing she could do about and I’ll have to re apply in order to have an account with them.

Does anyone know if this is correct, and if AMEX can do this kind of thing with their clients? And if there are any law that protect me .

I would keep notes on your conversations, especially get the names of people who are rude.

If it were me, I would call AMEX again, try to get a reasonable customer service rep, and talk to them. If you don't get anywhere that way, write them a letter demanding an explanation.

I believe the law says that you are entitled to know, in writing, if a company takes a negative action against you because of information on your credit report.

I've usually found that if I call a company often enough, I find a good, friendly, and helpful employee. Then, later, I always call that person when I have questions or need help. Form a relationship with them.

It's possible that they had your credit report mixed up with someone who has the same or a similar name to yours. Ask to speak with a supervisor to report that jerk, and also get some more information, or to speak with the department that handles delinquent accounts.

But yes, if you're credit bureau report had several negatives on it, they can cancel your account at any time. In your case though, it could have just been a mistake.
