How do you convert a Windows Movie Maker video?

I made an AMV for Bleach, but it is not in the right format to put it on youtube, myspace, or anywhere else. I need to make it into an mpeg or something more compatible. it would not let me save it as anything, but a movie maker file. I was just wondering if anyone out there knows a program or how to convert it. I would like to know a way that is cost effective, meaning free. Thanks.

Re-open the file in Movie Maker. Pretend that you are going to save it again ("Make Movie"). You will be offered different formats in which you can save it. Choose an mpg format and then "make the movie".
