Yeah, animals are never too old to get neutered.

I think you can, but discuss it with your vet.
AND
Please understand that this will NOT stop all the humping.

All dogs (both male and female) should be neutered for their health and well being... BUT... humping is not only a sexual activity.

Only when there's a b**** in heat is it sex.
Dog's don't hump for fun.

It's a dominance thing! They hump to try to knock the other dog down. The one who consistently knocks the other dog down is alpha over that other dog.

So ask your vet and if your vet is comfortable with it, have him neutered. After a few months, he'll be a bit more mellow, once his hormone levels drop. He'll still be lively and at a similar level of dominance, but it does take the edge off and it prevents several illnesses.

Yes! Get him neutered! You will be doing him a service!

Imagine what it's like to be horny all the time and never be able to do anything about it! Relieve him of his horniness!!!

BUT, on the record - I know about a million dogs who are neutered, and they still hump like crazy in the dog park. It's not only a sex things for dogs, but also a "I'm the boss" kind of thing. So chances are likely that he will still continue to hump.

BUT YES!!! Get him neutered!!!

Yes, it's not too late. For the record, like some said, the behavior might continue since by now it's probably more of a learned behavior as well as an instinctual. But, that said, I had a dog that came to me at one year old who was "hugging" my little nephew's leg. Nuetering him stopped this behavior. Also had two others who were nuetered in their second year of life and it stopped their tendencies towards this with each other. But, it did absolutely nothing for their marking. So, that said, it might help. But at any rate, it will make him feel more comfortable, less frustrated and less compulsive about the behavior. And, without those urges to cloud his mind he can concentrate on more important things, like enjoying being your pet.

YES!
However, Humping is not only a sexual action, it is also a sign of dominance. So if you do neuter him, this aggrivating behavior still may or may not continue. Be prepared. However, there are many benefits to neutering your pets besides merely stopping unwanted behavior. Consult your vet.

Yes you can, and I am a total advocate for it, but bear in mind that it is NOT a cure all, and the humping is as likley to be caused by frustration, boredom or dominence, as it is to 'randiness', and, by the age of three, it is likely to take some training, and identifying the REASONS to end the humping habit.

Yes he can still be neutered! Many retired show champions will not be neutered until they are much older as they need them to remain intact for breeding purposes and to 'special' them.

I do rescue and we get all rescues spayed or neutered when they come to us. Age isn't a factor. No matter the age, you still are preventing that dog from getting testicular cancer and likely prostate cancer.

Absolutely, however it will likely not make a difference in his behaviour. Think about it in human terms: if you were to have a child's reproductive system removed before puberty, they would never go through puberty. Same with dogs. It is highly unlikely the humping will stop if you do.

There's nothing wrong with neutering a three year old dog. I neutered my yorkie at three. He was overly possessive and semi-aggressive. He still humps everything, just not as much or often. Neutering him has cut his testosterone levels, which means it's cut his aggression levels.

Yes,you can get a dog neutered at any time. It's never too late, unless your dog is extremely old and /or sickly. It will make him a calmer dog, eliminate the possibility of testicular cancer, and make him less likely to have prostate problems.

Of course! It's usually best for the dog, reduces testitcular cancer, reduces their need to roam, or to mark (though it won't stop). As for humping it also may be a more behavioral dominance issues. Get him neutured and then for a refresher training course.
