Not that I would, I'm just curious.

What about eye color? Hair color?

Because apparently we can still discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation. So I want to see if this country can be even more backwards.

Excellent point. These are all inborn characteristics, not a "choice," and unchangeable.

Only bigots tend to say otherwise.

I'm not sure that this is a question of etiquette, but:

If you are discriminating in choice of personal relationships - well of course you can.

If you are discriminating in employment, again I would think you can IF it were central to the employment. For instance if you had a shop and power tools were all designed for right handed people, and a left handed person would be at risk operating those tools - then I think you could discriminate in employment.

Actually because so many things are designed for right handed people and the left version are more expensive - most lefties are quite ambidextrous.

Hard to imagine an employment case for eye or hair color??

Several years ago, a grade school class in Kentucky held an exercise over several weeks in which blue-eyed blonds were discriminated against and ostracized. The conclusion was that the "outcasts" didn't like the experience, but apparently no one actually learned anything from it, particularly the students allowed to do the discriminating. Such is human nature and its compulsion to feel superior to someone else.

Oh hell yeah, this is America! We're run by white-supremesis religious extremists, so we can ALWAYS get more backward! This is the one thing George Bush is good at (other than destroying our country and being an idiot). A new law is soon to pass that will deny citizens their rights depending on what color hair they have, we're bringing back segregation! Straight to the 17th century we go with Bush & Bible-bashers leading the way!

Seriously, I'm moving straight to Europe asap...

Since those promoting homophobia demand, and get, the special right to discriminate against gay people, why not? Claim it as your religious belief that left-handed (or blue-eyed or red-headed) people are sinful and work to pass laws to keep them from marrying, adopting, working, etc. If it works for the anti-gay movement, why can't it work for others?

Actually, left-handed people used to be thought to be mentally handicapped and kids that wrote with their left hands in school would get their hands slapped with a ruler. My Great-Aunt was left-handed and this happened to her. Even 30 years ago some misguided parents still thought that their kids were wrong to write with their left hand and punished them for doing so. A friend of mine in high-school used to turn his left hand so it bent over so it looked like what he had written was by his right hand. The letters slope a different way. I am also left handed and my mom left me alone because she always thought it was wrong that her aunt was punished for it.

Next time you are all alone, just you, I bet you will either discriminate between your left hand or your right hand.
Have Fun!

The way things are going in this country, it actually might come down to that, and I wouldn't be surprised.
