Or is it really just opinion?
I'm getting ready to buy my own car and the most I want to spend is $6000 so I was thinking about a 2 door Explorer with less than 100,000 miles.

So what are your personal experiences with Ford?
Not just opinion but actual fact or experience.

Most of the time you will find that choice of cares and trucks are just personal preference. Most every car is comparable by class. example, a 6,000 $ Explorer would be equal to a 6,000 $ dodge in the same class ,same miles, year etc. Most of what you find is how they are serviced in the past . Service is the most important thing. Most people just want to drive them. Find a service record on the car, ? has the oil been changed every 3,000 miles. Has the car been drove like someone stole it? Has it been wrecked? These are a few things to look an ask about. Remember to fallow service your self regardless of the make and model you choose

Forda are good quality vehicles, just as is any other make and model. The opinions that you hear are typically from people that bought a used car without first checking it out. I have had and currently own a Ford and a GMC. The type of vehicle does have something to do with certain problems: i.e. a 4x4 SUV will usually be prone to more suspension problems and premature rusting. The reason for this is that people buy them and immediately drive them off-road and into a stream or creek thinking that the four wheel drive is intended for such a use. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Honda, Toyota: have whatever you pick out checked out by a qualified mechanic. I would caution you that a Ford Eplorer Sport two-door model has a low resale value. Don't pay too much. Good Luck.

I bought a 2002 F-150 XLT with the 5.4 Triton engine we racked up 115,000 miles in 2.5 years and never had a problem with it,we switched to a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 liter engine and have had the truck in the shop 7 times and it has 62,000 miles on it however we have also owned a 1997 Geo Tracker it has 187,000 on it and we still drive it every day, bottom line it is luck of the draw most cars today will run well past 100,000 miles trouble free but sometimes you get one that was born to be trouble,I will buy another Chevy if the price is fair but I would also buy a Ford it is all about price and warranty with me,and by the way for all the Ford haters out there you forgot one First On Race Day.

I have owned a '94 & '00 Explorer, they were both problem free for 100,000 miles (I sold the '94 with 144,000 miles and it was still going strong!!) The only reason I got rid of the '00 was because I needed a bigger vehicle. I have a '99 Expedition and (so far) no problems. My husband has owned 9 Fords (just in the 13 years we have been together). He beats the sh*t out of his vehicles and he has only had regular maintenance work done.

I have a 1970 ford mustang and I love it. I think as the years pass by, ford gets crappier and crappier. My car requires minimal maintinance and its 37 years old. The explorers on the other hand, they didn't call them exploders for nothing. I think your best bet is to go with a diffent company if you want somethink like an explorer.

Keep in mind though that all cars need maintinence. It really depends on what kind of car you want. Look through the local auto traders and you will find something you like. A budy of mine got a dodge viper for $1 (divorce thing) in an auto trader. Good luck.

According to fleet operators and J.D. Powers, Fords are the best built and most reliable cars built and sold in the US, even beating out Toyota and Honda. The only problem I see is they have really bad dealers. I own 8 cars, 6 are Fords. Fortunately I only see them once, when I buy.

P.S. to venture off the subject, Chevrolet means "Goat Milker" in French

Twinturbo: If fords dont hold value very well, how come you cant buy a 2003 Mustang Cobra for under 25,000 bucks. Obviously there is something to Ford, or Jack Roush and Carroll Shelby wouldnt have their hands in the business building cars with their names on it.

Lastly, someone said that its all a matter of how well kept a vehicle is, as to how reliable it will be. I have owned Chevy's and I have owned rice burners, but I have yet to get rid of a Ford. They are good rigs. Most of the people on here with their clever acronyms for Ford have never owned one and are just going off what others say.

My moms nissan pathfinder on the other hand didn't make it 70,000miles before it needed a motor and it was very well maintained and babied same with my grandmas rav-4 before the 100,000 mile mark it already has had the computer and transmission replaced.

I drive a 2 dr Explorer with 168k miles, it runs great and has plenty of power with the 4.0 sohc v6. It's a great truck and turns around on a dime.

They are so popular you will have a hard time finding one with less than 100k and if you do, the lower the miles the higher the price. For your price it will be around 10 years old.

Who told you Fords are crap, som furen car lovr? always concider the source..

all you are going to get here is opinions.you will get good and bad in any brand automibile you buy.but dont expect a gem for under 6 grand and 100,00 miles on it.it most likely will need some front end parts and probably a brake job and tires. more expenses to think about.have a competent mechanic look it over and check out the wear items i mentioned.good luck
