I use it all the time and I am curious if it actually offends anyone.

I agree with some of you that not all christians are bible thumpers. The ones that I refer to are the ones that try to push thier religion on me and others. The ones that want god put in public schools and governments. The ones that keep telling me that I am going to hell.

I have many christian friends, but none of them classify as Bible Thumpers to me.

I find it hilarious. It's funny because for a certain sector of "Christians," it's true.

Not as long as it's overused. There are people who live their faith and are good Christian people that don't force their views on others, Then there are the Bible Thumpers who constantly criticize and look at other peoples evils while ignoring their own. The truth isn't derogatory

No. If you are going to be a Christian in this day and age you have to have a sense of humor and you have to be respectful of other people's beliefs. EVERYBODY has their own belief and way of expressing it. Christian People need to lighten up and not be offended at such little things as "Bible Thumper".

I feel that it is okay to quote the Bible, but I think that the term "Bible Thumper" is intended to be derogatory.

I think people who would rather throw a bible at someone than read from it themselves deserve to be called "bible thumpers".

I think it is derogatory, however, I don't think it can be applied to me. However, if you are calling all people who call themselves Christian 'bible thumpers' than I think you are using the epithet incorrectly. It should only be used against Fanatical Christians.

Yes, I do consider it rude, but also it can be inaccurate. Not all Christians are into their Bibles that much. Some Christians are more moderate and don't go around quoting Bible verses, and in fact take many of them with a grain of salt. (Depends whether you're a "fundamentalist" Christian or more "liberal" one.)

No, it just implies that I actually know my subject matter.

Considering the fact that many atheists claim that they know the Bible better than most Christians (whom they claim never read our own book), then i suppose that it is a compliment, since it implies that I am one of the few Christians that have actually read the book.

I'm sure there is someone somewhere who would be offended. Some people are to easily offended. It doesn't bother me. I would say it probably depends on how you use it and if you were trying to offend someone you probably could. I'm guessing you don't mean it like that, so it should be OK.
