Cain (Qabeel,this is the name in my religious books) wanted to marry his own time born sister which was not allowed by the ethics prevailing. His other brother Habeel Abel, was supposed to marry Cain's own sister. So Qabeel murdered him so as to get married to her own sister.

So, I think it makes sense to you that a certain Ethics was enforced even that period. Later in due course of time this was forbidden altogether.

If you read a little further on in the Bilble it explains that. Not sure if it is in Genesis or not but it is their. I beleive they had more than just two sons but only men were mentioned in the bible except for eve for a long time especially in the old testament.
