Surely there is a Walmart, McDonald's and Burger King down there. Are none of them hiring?

Or did you mean jobs that are up to a certain imaginary standard?

I know what you mean. My mother lives in Michigan City, IN and when there is a job opening people line up down the street for it. It seems like the tax policies in Indiana discourage businesses from building there. I suggest that the good folks in Marion not depend on factories to provide work, and get some education instead.

I know what you mean. I am less than 20 miles from Marion. My husband drives to Indy every day to go to work. 30% of his wages goes for gas and auto repair. We are only making about $5000 per capita here.
Wait a minute, firehors. Do you know anyone who can support a family on the wages of Walmart or a fast food restaurant? I don't think any of those places pay over $15 an hour. $15 an hour is just $30,000 a year, which is below poverty level for a family.
