Hi,
My FI and I are both Irish and are getting married in Las Vegas. We have the ceremony and reception booked, the problem now is, can we get married by a priest, as the ceremony is at the reception site and will be taking place outside. Can priests perform marriages anywhere, or has it to be on consecrated ground. Also, would the wedding be recognised by the Catholic church here in Ireland. Thanks for any help you can give me with this one...

Thanks for the speedy answers, we still have a year till we get married, but i'm getting worried now. Is there no way we can get married in Las Vegas and it be recognised in the Catholic church here in Ireland, without during a full church ceremony. Dont get me wrong, i'm not opposed to getting married in a church, it's just that since we were travelling to Vegas to get married, we wanted to do something different, and my fiance really wants to get married outdoors at dusk....thanks for all your help though

Just in reply to Mommy to seven.....it's our wedding, we'll only be doing it once, so i'm not ashamed to say, YES, it is about us....and for the record, all our family and close friends will be there with us. Weddings in Ireland today are all about who's is the biggest and the best, we're not into that. We want to celebrate it with our family and friends, and dont think we should be knocked for that. I was just asking if a priest could marry us outside of a church, if it's not possible, we've no problem getting married in a church, we go to church every Sunday. Please dont judge me, you dont know me!

Although the usual practice is for a Catholic marriage to be celebrated is in a parish church, the bishop can give permission for the marriage to be celebrated in another suitable place.

For more information, see the Code of Canon Law, Canon 1118: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/__P40.HTM

With love in Christ.

as you've got the ceremony booked already, speak to the chapel organising your wedding and ask if they can find a Catholic priest for you to perform your ceremony - it might put your mind at rest immediately. Also, once you're married in Las Vegas it's a legal marriage worldwide.

Good luck - I hope you get the answers you want.

I got married and had a great reception for 40 at the Stratosphere. Their reception rooms are on the 103rd floor with a terrific view, and the Top of the World restaurant caters. Food was excellent. (This was 2004). I attended a wedding at the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Henderson, which was also very nice. Good luck!

The proper place for the celebration of a sacrament is in the Church.

It IS possible to do this right even though you will be marrying in a different country.

You need the cooperation of a priest and the bishop, who will contact a bishop in LasVegas.

I guess my question is, why would you want to get married so far from home and family? The marriage ceremony has moved from being a community celebration to " it's all about us." I guess that confuses me.

Laws concerning marriage vary from state to state. While I do not have first-hand knowledge, I believe marriage laws in Nevada are more relaxed than in other states. You can pretty much show up, pay the fee, and get legally married. Catholics add more to it. You must meet with the priest at least once before the ceremony, commonly there are mandatory classes and counseling etc. You cannot just show up and get married by a Catholic priest.

One of the most common questions spouses ask when confronting a marriage crisis is this: How can I save my marriage if my partner doesn't want to help find a solution? How do I succeed I am trying to save my marriage on my own? Learn here https://tr.im/3twyN

It is a typical enough story: one partner leaves, the other stays. One remains 'in love', the other is uncertain. Whatever it is that has caused a couple to be apart, the one person who remains bears the prospect, fear, doubt, desire, hope of saving his or her marriage' alone.

The Priest does not marry you but is a witness before Christ and His church, you marry yourselves in other words.
Having said this I would forsee difficulty in a full Catholic mass in such a place and the celebration of the holy Eucharist would be a problem, would any Priest actually do this ?
You really should speak to your parish Priest before the date arrives.

In the Bible, Isaac and his wife were married in a tent. Nobody was around. There was no ceremony, and no certificate.

Marriage is done by God, not man. So requiring some man to have such extreme authority over you is ridiculous and unbiblical.

And catholics are not saved Christians. They teach a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell.
